The Last Airbender (Shyamalan, 2010) — The other Avatar movie
See yourself on the big screen -- just go to the open casting call for a new M. Night Shyamalan movie this Saturday, Jan. 24.
“The Last Airbender,” a soon-to-be film adaptation of the Emmy-winning animated television series, “Avatar: the Last Airbender,” will be directed and produced by Shyamalan.
The auditions take place at the Wachovia Center, 3601 South Broad Street, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Filming will happen in the Philadelphia area.
“Airbender” will star actor/singer Jesse McCartney and Jackson Rathbone of “Twilight.” The movie will debut July 2, 2010.

Yeah, starting with Shyamalan as director, this really killed my casual interest in seeing this adapted.
I don't hate him even though I only like one of his movies (Unbreakable). It's just that the man has no visual flare. He's like Kevin Smith (although I love his movies) in terms of bland photography and direction. Not whom I'd choose to helm an epic fantasy/adventure feature with an Eastern flavor.
But casting Jesse McCartney and Jackson Rathbone (I don't care who they're to portray) in this is just adding insult to injury.

It's a good thing the animated series exists already. Now that it's finally complete, I need to give it a full watch. I hear good things about it overall.

It's a very good show. It's wholesome family entertainment but the writers did their best to mostly avoid talking down to the audience. And the main arc is well paced and developed throughout the course of the series while still maintaining an episodic format. So it's a show that grownups can appreciate too.

It's a great show, and the story is (mostly) complete. I'm starting to understand why people hate remakes so much, esp going animated to live action. There's so much about this world that I don't want to see them even try to duplicate in live-action.

Production Updates:
Rehearsals were held at the production office for the live-action film adaptation in Philly.
Filming began mid-March 2009 in Ilulissat, Greenland.
The production returned to Philadelpia in April, where filming is taking place on large sound-stages throughout the city.
One of the sound-stages used for filming is the 180,000-sq-ft former Budd Co. warehouse in East Falls.
An exterior location at the Pagoda in Reading, PA was filmed on April 2nd and April 9th.
On April 7th, filming took place at the Philadelphia Electric Company building. Producer Frank Marshall revealed that the inside of the building is being used as a set, and that they are incorporating all the old machinery of the power plant for filming.
A press release with photos of the cast of The Last Airbender will be released June 2009.

Re: The Last Airbender (Shyamalan, 2010) — The other Avatar movie
Damn, Shimilamalan, is one of my least favorite director's ever, so I pretty much just assumed this would be utter crap like everything he does (except Unbreakable). Especially b/c Airbender is flat-out the best cartoon since The Batman Animated Series, but I have to admit, that is a great teaser that works, totally has me psyched for this film now. Also, really like the casting of Dev Patel.

I've never had my interested be raised and destroyed while reading a single thread title before.
EDIT:
Alright, I saw that before I knew there was a teaser trailer. Even I will admit that looks pretty cool, but we'll see. There's no way I'll go see another M. Night movie without first seeing tons of reviews.

And you have to leave after the opening credits. No point sticking around to the end after that.

Did he write it? Because Shyamalan as a director isn't bad, it's Shyamalan as a writer who sucks horribly.
