Immortals (Tarsem, 2011)
Caravaggio meets Fight Club
http://thefilmstage.com/wp-content/u...sem_singh1.jpg The visually masterful filmmaker Tarsem recently told Empire about his new film, War of the Gods: “It’s turning into, basically, Caravaggio meets Fight Club,” he said. “It’s a really hardcore action film done in Renaissance painting style. I want to see how that goes; it’s turned into something really cool. This guy who I really love, who’s the only one person in it right now, is the brother in The Tudors, Henry Cavill. I’m going for a very contemporary look on top of that so I’m kind of going with, you know, Renaissance time with electricity. So it’s a bit like Baz Luhrman doing Romeo + Juliet in Mexico; it’s just talking a particular Greek tale and half contemporising it and telling it.” A purported bastard who retains an allegiance to his mother despite the fact that he longs to join the quest of a king who is battling demons in ancient Greece later embarks on a grail of discovery that has him finding he is the king’s son and also fated to become his country’s greatest hero as he leads the successful war against long-imprisoned Titans who are hoping to use the demons to restore their power. The Fall was beautiful. Can't wait for this. |

Sounds like it could be cool.

re: Immortals (Tarsem, 2011)
Well, this is my most anticipated film. I loved everything about The Fall, hope he does as good of job with this.

re: Immortals (Tarsem, 2011)
I wasn't the biggest fan of The Fall but it was a fucking beautiful film. This one sounds interesting.

re: Immortals (Tarsem, 2011)
That sounds amazing. The Fall was fantastic. I'm there.

re: Immortals (Tarsem, 2011)
i'm in. at the least we're guaranteed a visual feast.

re: Immortals (Tarsem, 2011)
I can't believe he spent 14 years scouting for locations in The Fall. It shows though.

re: Immortals (Tarsem, 2011)
After walking out of The Cell vowing to never see another film by this man, he won me over COMPLETELY with The Fall - my favorite film in years.
I'm not so sure what he was trying to describe in the first paragraph above, but the plot sounds pretty interesting - I'll be all over this one I think. Michael |
re: Immortals (Tarsem, 2011)
You had me a 'Tarsem' - the Fall hasn't yet received the recognition it deserves (outside of this thread, anyways) - maybe this new film will win over some dedicated fans. The Cell wasn't great, yet the imagery was unforgettable and powerfully detailed. I cannot wait to see what he does w/ Greek gods

re: Immortals (Tarsem, 2011)
The Fall gets mixed reviews but most agree it's absolutely stunning. Apparently his resurgence has inspired the studios to make a straight to video sequel to ... The Cell. Without him of course, but you know how these things work.

re: Immortals (Tarsem, 2011)
I was in awe of The Fall. It absolutely was my favorite of the year. However, I hated The Cell and would not want to watch any kind of sequel to it.
That being said, I really look forward to his next movie - he really earned a lot of goodwill from me after The Fall Michael |

re: Immortals (Tarsem, 2011)
Maybe "War of the Gods" will sweep the Oscars like "The Fall". Especially the Best Cinematography award.
Wait.............. |
re: Immortals (Tarsem, 2011)
Why wasn't The Fall nominated...didn't it meet all the requirements or is cuz it's popping in and out of the other festivals long before it came out in theaters?
|
re: Immortals (Tarsem, 2011)
The Falls made me a fan. i have to see his next movie in the theaters. i hope this makes it my way.

re: Immortals (Tarsem, 2011)
Fuck, is he doing the screenplay too? Damnit. I'm sorry. Tarsem certainly has visual flair but watching his films feels like seeing a 5-hour perfume commercial. The man needs to let someone else produce and write his movies.
As a visualist, he's on par with Michael Bay. But because he makes people in funny costumes riding an elephant look beautiful (as opposed to a car blowing up behind Will Smith), he gets accolades from a different group. (The above statement is more praise for Bay than a bash against Tarsem.) |

Is Eiko Ishioka going to be involved?

re: Immortals (Tarsem, 2011)
I was looking up some info on Isabel Lucas and found out she's in this. Apparently it's been renamed Immortals and comes out on November 11, 2011.
Here's the full cast per wikipedia: Henry Cavill as Theseus: Founder and King of Athens Freida Pinto as Phaedra: An oracle who joins Theseus on his quest. Mickey Rourke as King Hyperion Kellan Lutz as Poseidon Luke Evans as Zeus Isabel Lucas as Athena Stephen Dorff as Stravos John Hurt as Older Zeus Robert Maillet as Minotaur Corey Sevier as Apollo Alan Van Sprang as Draco Mercedes Leggett as Priestess Kaniehtiio Hornas Priestess Ayisha Issa as Priestess Steve Byers as Heracles Romano Orzari as Icarus Neil Napier as Beast Master |

re: Immortals (Tarsem, 2011)
This sounds to me like it'll be a very Gaiman-esque (or Percy Jackson for grownups):
As of yet, the production details are not being released. It is being touted by some to potentially be a modern mythological blockbuster film with special effects and in HD. Director Tarsem Singh tells that he is planning an action movie to be a visual masterpiece using renaissance painting styles. He then goes on to say that he is "...kind of going for a very contemporary look on top of that so I'm kind of going with, you know, Renaissance time with electricity... a bit like Baz Luhrmann doing Romeo + Juliet in Mexico; it's just taking a particular Greek tale and half [make it contemporary] and telling it." |

Tarsem can do no wrong in my eyes. Even if the movie sucks, I get so lost in the visuals.
