Alexandre Aja to remake "Piranha" in 3-D

From slashfilm:
For his next trick, Aja is going ahead with his a remake of Joe Dante’s Piranha, this time in 3D.....Piranha 3D is set to shoot in the summer, with polish-ups now going on in the script department. Aja says “I’m finishing storyboards now and using the time to improve the script to get the best action and story gags as possible”.

Re: Alexandre Aja to remake "Piranha" in 3-D

3D is a gimmick that I refuse to fall for. Has a good film ever been made in 3D?

Aja was once promising with High Tension and the Hills Have Eyes remake but Mirrors sucked and this doesnt sound very promising.

Also, I heard the runtime will be 87 minutes!

Plus, Friday the 13th 3-D and Jaws 3 are both rad.

I dont know about that. Aja has been pretty generous with the running times on his films. Thats one of the reasons I liked him so much...

Re: Alexandre Aja to remake "Piranha" in 3-D

IIRC, the original Piranha was pretty short. But it has a school of piranha eating a lake full of children. Thus, it's awesome.

Re: Alexandre Aja to remake "Piranha" in 3-D

I think this sort of film should run 90 minutes or less and be just pure fun! The original is an excellent flick and would be disappointing had it been padded with more footage.

Yeah, what is this his 3rd remake already? Looks like he's taking the detour to Sellout City with his buddy Rob Zombie.

This could have potential -- the original is an under appreciated cult classic, imo.

Yeah, Aja seems to be on the express elevator to hell. I hope the millions are a comfort. (Yes, Piranha is a schlock classic ...)

Has a good film ever been made in 3D?
Abel Gance's Napoleon - partially in 3D ...

Re: Alexandre Aja to remake "Piranha" in 3-D

I had such high hopes for Aja, but any hack director could make a remake of Piranha, or any remake. The work is basically done for you (and I won't listen to arguments of "he is making it his own". That is still much less work then making your own original film). Aja has great potential to be the next great horror director. These remakes are really killing him for me though.

Re: Alexandre Aja to remake "Piranha" in 3-D

if he can make 'Piranha' gory and vicious as his 'Hills' and 'High Tension' flicks, I'm game.

Let's be honest, the man is a one trick wonder. Hills Have Eyes worked, but I'd rather be punched in the face than sit through Dean Koontz's Haute Tension and Crappy Asian Horror Remake #27: Mirrors again.

Re: Alexandre Aja to remake "Piranha" in 3-D

People who ask if there has ever been a good 3-D movie obviously haven't seen many or researched the history of the process. DIAL M FOR MURDER, HONDO, MISS SADIE THOMPSON, KISS ME KATE, INFERNO, HOUSE OF WAX, SECOND CHANCE, and I, THE JURY are all good movies. Even second tier stuff like CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON, IT CAME FROM OUTER SPACE, THE MAZE, DANGEROUS MISSION, THE MAD MAGICIAN, PHANTOM OF THE RUE MORGUE, GUN FURY, etc are decent flicks too. The 3-D movies made in the 1950's were no better or worse than the flat movies of the time, and featured many majors stars of the era. It's the schlock that came in later years that makes people think of crappy movies with many scenes of people pointing sticks at the camera!

That said, I'm all for a schlocky 3-D movie like MBV or "Piranha" remake any day.

Re: Alexandre Aja to remake "Piranha" in 3-D

Hills Have Eyes was one of my all time favorite remakes, top notch....
Haute Tension was alot of fun & a great debut....
Mirrors wasn't that bad but that fire fx in the film was really poor....
Very excited about this....

Re: Alexandre Aja to remake "Piranha" in 3-D

From Bloody-Disgusting:
It comes as no surprise this morning that Dimension Films has pushed Alex Aja's Piranha 3D release back from its planned July 24th release all the way back to March 19th, 2010. It was revealed that filming was pushed back and that the trailer is expected to debut with FINAL DESTINATION: DEATH TRIP 3D on August 21st.
