Sorry to hear that. Owning The Prisoner in a (more or less) permanent format is one of the main reasons I got my first DVD player.

"Why does this person speak to me as though I needed his advice?" lol, I really only knew him from Braveheart but I think he was my fav part of the movie. Still cracks me up when he throws his sons lover out the window...

Re: RIP Patrick McGoohan
Very sorry to hear this news.
Patrick McGoohan was a multi-talented personality, and will be sadly missed. I remember him as both John Drake in DangerMan, and then as No.6 in the iconoclastic 60's series, The Prisoner, for which I think he will always be remembered. He also appeared in many movies like Ice Station Zebra, Mary,Queen of Scots, Scanners, A Time To Kill etc, and of course Braveheart.
Always an amiable, reticent and humorous man, I remember him once being interviewed and when asked what The Prisoner was really about, as after all, he had produced it, directed and written some episodes and played the leading role. McGoohan replied instantly with a straight face, "I haven't a clue!"
A tremendous on-screen presence -witness his controlled, seething rage as the monstrous King Edward I in Braveheart, his unnerving stare and monotone delivery as No.6 in The Prisoner, his cunning, calculating and dangerous James Stuart in Mary, Queen of Scots.
All in all, another great talent gone...

In the summer of '68, between my junior and senior years in college, I had to stay home every Saturday night to see The Prisoner in its US first run on CBS. Everyone thought I was crazy but it was worth it. I was extremely disappointed that CBS pre-empted the "Living in Harmony" episode (they gave some lame excuse but word was that it wasn't aired because of its parallels with Vietnam). I didn't see it till years later. It's my favorite episode of the series.
I liked McGoohan for many things but it is The Prisoner for which I will always most remember him.
Very sad.

I'd hoped he would have some input on this attempt to redo The Prisoner, but I guess not. I was his brainchild--he knew what he wanted to accomplish, and despite having to pad the series out longer than he'd intended, he still created a masterpiece.
Time for a Prisoner marathon this weekend. I wonder if I should bite the bullet and replace my A&E discs with the completely remastered Region 2 series . . .

Re: RIP Patrick McGoohan
Funny thing is: I know him best from playing the bad guy (very well, might I add) in Silver Streak. That's long been a favorite comedy of mine, and I watch it every time I have the opportunity. I've seen it probably 50 times, over the years. Maybe a credit to his acting skills, I didn't even recognize him in Braveheart. He kicked ass (and threw one out a window!) in BH!
Sad news, indeed.

Re: RIP Patrick McGoohan
My condolences to his family and friends, a fine man and a great actor. The Prisoner is still relevant today.
I know an actor's death causes some to purchase some of their works. For those with a region free player the best version of The Prisoner is from Network DVD and is well worth the money. It blows the A&E version away. BCNU
