I like Ellis but I haven't read this one yet. It seems that they have gotten the feel of Ellis' 1980s, so that's good.

Same NSFW trailer as above but embedded.
and a must see for Amber Heards nude scene. (which is featured plenty in the trailer)

Brief clip. Mickey Rourke looks to be in full-sleaze mode.

Variety review:
Rating less than zero on the sophistication scale, “The Informers” is thus a totally faithful adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’ novel -- and an accurate look at early ‘80s-era Los Angeles. Stumbling alongside wasted cases at the top and bottom of the economic ladder -- from Billy Bob Thornton’s near-catatonic studio exec to Mickey Rourke’s lollipop-sucking kidnapper -- the film is banal by obvious intent. The only question, as with other Ellis adaptations including “American Psycho,” is whether auds will appreciate the aggressively shallow depiction of an aggressively shallow milieu, or mistake the pic’s implicit critique for the crime itself.

I'm going to a screening in a couple of hours. As I said before, I'm an Ellis fan so I will see how this one turns out.

The idea of sitting through The Informers a second time makes me twitch; the only reason I made it through once was because I knew I had to suffer in order to warn you people away.

Yeah I just read some more about it on IMDB and it says that it was short stories. The one about the vampire (played by Brandon Routh) has been cut. I guess I just didn't get an Altman Short Cuts type vibe to the film.

The film is pretty close to the book. Certain things have been switched around and cut to make things easier.
It's not a great movie but it serves it's purpose. If you have read the book and know what you're getting into then I don't think you will think it's terrible. It's a movie that starts nowhere and goes nowhere, like the book; nothing is accomplished or changed, it's just a series of events. It's a very shallow movie and that's what it's supposed to be. In that respect, it works.

Spoiler:
The Informers was actually my first Ellis book that I read, and I definitely want to see the movie, if only because of that. And Rourke.
