Favorite Mickey Rourke movie (prior to 2008)?
With his stellar comeback in "The Wrestler", frankly after "Sin City" i thought he would be back full force, what is your favorite Rourke role prior to his latest?
As much as i love him as Marv in SC i love his turn as Charlie in "The Pope of Greenwich Village". i just thought he was so gritty and real, reminiscent of my love for Johnny Boy (Robert DeNiro) in "Mean Streets" which i love for that role more than the movie.
i do really like his roles and it wasn't until "Sin City" that i truly realized. he was so humbled and seemingly deserving of his Golden Globe that i think and hope he takes the Oscar.
honorable mentions:
"The Rainmaker" (small part)
"Rumble Fish"
"Diner"

He had a minor part in Buffalo 66, but it's certainly my favorite film with Mickey Rourke in it. As far as starring roles, I'd have to go with Diner.

Man, I love a bunch of these.
Angel Heart
Sin City
The Pope of Greenwich Village
But in the end, for all of it's flaws, I had to go with Harley Davidson & The Marlboror Man. Just for the sheer fun of it.

Wild Orchid
Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man
He was also pretty bad ass in Double Team.
Boy do I have some random choices...

No question, Angel Heart. I love that movie as a noir, as a thriller, and as a horror movie. It's perfect.
Plus, you know, barely-legal Lisa Bonet in her prime getting down and nudie. Meanwhile, Sin City has what, Jessica Alba as the most fully-clothed stripper of all time? HAH!

It's a toss-up between "Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man" and "Year of the Dragon" for me. As much as "Rumble Fish" is awesome, it's the whole ensemble that make that film.
I'll go with Year of the Dragon:
Detective: "You know, you care too much..."
Rouke: "How can anybody care too much?"

Re: Favorite Mickey Rourke movie (prior to 2008)?
Good thread,I've been on a real Mickey Rourke kick lately....
I won't vote until I see a few more but I've seen most of his work so far....
My favorite 3 that I've seen which I'm not sure what I consider his best were:
Sin City,Angel Heart, & Bullet....
I still need to see these to make up my mind:
Year of the Dragon,Barfly,Johnny Handsome,Homeboy,Point Blank, & Thursday....
I'm surprised some of the stuff you put on the list & some that you ignored....

The Pope of Greenwich Village is not a particularly great film, but Rourke OWNS it. In terms of movies, I'd pick Diner, followed by Sin City, Year of the Dragon, and Body Heat (greatest film there, but come on, it's pretty much a cameo).
In terms of his acting: Pope, Diner, Sin City, Angel Heart

Well I had to vote for Sin City as that the only film other than Once Upon a Time in Mexico I have ever seen him in.

Of the ones listed, I've only seen Once Upon a Time in Mexico and Sin City. The former was atrocious; Sin City wasn't.

Loved Mickey as Marv in Sin City, but had to go with Angel Heart for this one.
