Impossible to narrow it down to one for me.

The Right Stuff - not just because it's a great story, but because it's told with style, wit, reverence, and inspiration. And it has one of the greatest ensemble casts ever.

And I think a good thing to mention in these types of threads are any films that are possibly sneaking up on your number one pick. Mine has been Dogs for a while now (looooong time) but here's what may kick it out, pending enough viewings:

The Dark Knight (not only suprised at how good this film was but actually blown away by it)

Talk about hard to come up with just one! So hard I can't do it...
And even at that I could easily come up with another 20 or 30 that I'd rate as absolute favorites.

The answer I give most often is Dr. Strangelove, but this is impossible. I also have to consider Jaws, Blade Runner, Apocalypse Now, Brazil, This is Spinal Tap, and any number of classics (La Dolce Vita, Citizen Kane, etc.)
