Same here,Katherine Bigelow is most likely my all time favorite woman director....
The Loveless (1982)
Near Dark (1987)
Blue Steel (1990)
Point Break (1991)
Strange Days (1995)
Homicide: Life on the Street (3 episodes, 1998-1999)
For the most part she delivers top notch quality work....

I read an interview with Bigelow recently and I have new respect for her. I'm not a big fan of her movies but she certainly knows her stuff.

You don't like Near Dark (1987),Blue Steel (1990), or Point Break (1991)?

I'm a big fan of Near Dark and the two leads but this doesn't look very good at all. I read the "Iraq war drama" in the thread title and lost interest . I watched the trailer because I wanted to give the movie a fair chance but I have even less interest in the film now.
It just looks like another generic Middle Eastern war flick.

I'm in to see Jeremy Renner. He was one of the best parts of both 28 Weeks Later and The Assassination Of Jesse James.

ok...somehow I totally overlooked this and as I can see many of us here have as well. I think more word needs to get out about this film..it screams badass..and it's shot very very well. I can't wait for this thing to come out.
This trailer is posted here as a link and is a bit old..but...damnit. Watch it and enjoy.

I got a chance to see this and thought it was good. Got a little tedious toward the end and I didn't really like Renner's character. The opening and Renners first mission were two very tense scenes.

Definitely want to check this out. It's currently the best-reviewed movie of the year.

Maybe now that the Oscars will have 10 nominees for Best Picture, this will squeeze in. The Academy tends to overlook "action" movies.

Biggalow is aswome. Her films are never 10 out of 10, but she makes films with more balls than all the directors in H'wood who actually own a pair.
I liked K-19 a lot. Not a perfect film, but essential viewing to see the choices that were made in telling the story. Most directors would have diluted the story, made a more upbeat ending, included a love interest, etc. in order to appeal to a broader audience. K-19 is probably the only $150 million film ever made that wasn't designed by a comitee to appeal to the largest possible demographic.

Is it me or am I the only one who is freaking hot for the director of this flick. Female directors doing this stuff and making it good? Damn, I want her now.

Saw this today and loved it... It does drag a little towards the end, but the tension during the missions, especially at the beginning, was superb. Right now right after Star Trek for fav of the year.

Thought this film was extremely well done. I've not sat with that much tension for such a long time in a good while. The script was tight, and the directing and Renner particularly were superb. It's beautifully shot and brought down only slightly by a few of the domestic scenes which threatened to border into sap ... thankfully it wasn't enough, for me, to detract from the technical, suspenseful success of the rest of the picture.

...and by the way, the thread title should really read 'with Renner, Mackie' etc as Pearce, Fiennes and those so-called headliners are in the film for all of about 5 minutes.

Ok, I have to say this.
I keep hearing all these good things for Hurt Locker and how great Bigelow is as a director.
Well...I cannot say anything for the film, as I have not seen it yet, BUT from the trailer I thought it looked very underwhelming.
Bigelow as a Director is another issue. Since when did people jump on the Bigelow train and start declaring her a "Great" Director? I keep seeing statements along those lines.
K-19, yeah I actually thought it was fair.
I did enjoy The Weight of Water and think its her best film, but seriously...Why is everyone jumping on the bandwagon and announcing her as being 'THE' woman director of our time?
I do plan on seeing it, and the fact that Ralph Fiennes is in it adds some credit for me but Bigelow... I dont know I just dont think her films have been all that great or interesting.

i have seen Near Dark, and yeah its ok but I certainly didnt see anything in it that makes me think she is a great director.
The Loveless, I have not seen, and have heard very mixed thoughts on it. I would like to see it, if for nothing else Willem Dafoe's performance.
Sofia Coppola- I have not been let down with any of her films yet, love her style.
Jane Campion- apart from In the Cut, the films I have seen of hers have been some of the best work in Directing by a woman. The Piano, An Angle At My Table, Portrait of a Lady, Holy Smoke, all nice films.
