Race to Witch Mountain (March 2009) -- The Rock, Gugino
The trailer is up over at Apple movie site:

I have to admit that I have never seen the original along with the sequel.

The original film is probably one of the first movies I saw in the theater. I remember it pretty well because I got lost in the theater and sat down next to the wrong family for a couple of minutes, realized it and started screaming bloody murder.
I'd give this one a watch I suppose. I looked them all up on IMDB a couple of days ago. The original was remade in 1995 and the boy who was in the original made a short film called The Blair Witch Mountain. Could be a cool DVD extra.

The original and sequel were on Turner Classic this past weekend. The original held up okay, but being an old school Disney live action film it is filled with the hokeyness of that era. Still, it's not terrible. The sequel, however, is just awful... Honestly, it would be perfect for Rifftrax.
This remake could be decent. The premise still works and it'd be nice to see it done with just a little more edge to it.

I loved the original and its sequel (come on--it had Bette Davis!) as a kid. I had a big crush on the girl--Kim Richards.
I'll watch the new one, if only for Carla Gugino.

I was surprised how good this looked. It certainly appears far and away sharper and less dopey than any of Disney's other live action efforts of late (all I can think of off the top of my head are The Pacifier, The Game Plan, the last, terrible Pirates movie and Bedtime Stories).

Yeah -- they have been replaying the original movies on television and wathcing them gets me even more excited about the new one in March. I can only imagine how awesome this story will be with the film technology now.
I saw on IMDb the two original cast members, Kim and Ike will be playing minor cameo roles, but I think it will really tie in the entire movie together. It's a neat touch they thought of.

I was actually quite pleased with The Rock's performance in The Game Plan, so maybe he likes doing these sort of movies? He seems to be getting a good response from the general audience, so like the old saying goes...if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I saw a winebego in a trailer I saw on television, it doesn't seem like much is changed from the original so I am sure it will be in the movie.

The movie opens today and it is already getting great reviews. People are raving about Dwayne Johnson's ability to bring sci-fi and comedy together. Here is what Variety had to say about the movie, "Smartly positioned for maximum potential as a breakout spring hit with cross-generational appeal, "Race to Witch Mountain" is the sort of full-throttle crowd-pleaser capable of grabbing even teen and twentysomething ticketbuyers who normally avoid anything that smacks of "family entertainment." There's something for almost every demo here -- including baby-boomers with fond memories of the original Disney-produced "Witch Mountain" pics of the 1970s -- and the entire package is impressively propelled by the star-powered, likably comic-macho perf by Dwayne Johnson (formerly known as the Rock). Expect strong B.O. numbers, even stronger homevid sales and very early talk of a possible sequel."

Are you f***ing kidding me! It has a 35% fresh rating at Rotten tomatoes. Last house on the Left is even batting 42% What is so great about 35% fresh reviews?
