LOS ANGELES — Jason Momoa, the Game of Thrones alum who plays Aquaman in the upcoming DC comics films, is in talks to star in The Crow, Relativity’s reboot of the 1994 cult classic starring Brandon Lee, Mashable has exclusively learned.
Corin Hardy (The Hallow) is set to direct The Crow, which is based on the beloved graphic novel by James O’Barr. Alex Proyas directed the original, which tragically served as Lee’s final film following an accidental shooting on set.
Momoa posted a photo of himself with Hardy several days ago on Instagram with the hashtags #sealthedeal, #greatnewstocome and #dreamjob. The Crow is the only movie that Hardy is known to be currently casting.
Multiple people close to the project confirm to Mashable that Momoa is in talks to play the role, and has figured out a way to work it around his Aquaman duties.
Original producer Ed Pressman is among the producers of the Crow reboot, which is expected to beat Aquaman to theaters. Momoa’s DC superhero was recently introduced in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and will have a larger role in Justice League before his standalone film in 2018, which is being directed by James Wan.
Some fanboys may cry foul over Momoa playing two superheroes simultaneously, but the Crow and Aquaman couldn’t be more different — and The Crow will no doubt have a much darker tone than its DC counterpart.
The Crow traditionally follows Eric Draven, who returns from the dead to track down his killers and avenge his murdered fiancé with the help of a mystical bird.
The Crow represents one of the crown jewels in Relativity’s coffers, and the reboot is an important step in the company’s mission to restore its reputation in Hollywood as it emerges from bankruptcy. Earlier this year, Relativity chief Ryan Kavanaugh brought in Dana Brunetti, producer of The Social Network, Captain Phillips and House of Cards, to steer the company’s new creative vision.
As with any movie, The Crow reboot will come down to execution, but Momoa is an intriguing choice and Hardy is considered a rising filmmaker who has Hollywood’s attention. He could’ve gone off to pursue other projects in lieu of several delays but he stuck by Relativity and the company is now sticking with him. The delays had previously forced Jack Huston (Ben-Hur) off the project, as he was once attached to star.
Outside of the DCU, Momoa will soon be seen in Ana Lily Amirpour’s The Bad Batch, the indie Going Under and the action movie Braven, which he also produced. Momoa is represented by APA, LINK Entertainment and attorney Bill Sobel.

I'll wait to see how it turns out. I grew up loving The Crow. And I feel betrayed by every sequel.

Still not dead...
‘The Crow’ Reboot Nabbed by Sony
Dave McNary Film Reporter @Variety_DMcNary
SEPTEMBER 1, 2017 | 11:28AM PT
Sony Pictures has signed on to distribute the long-stalled “The Crow Reborn” worldwide.
The movie will be a reboot of the 1994 pic and is aiming to be a more faithful adaptation of the original graphic novel written by James O’Barr. Directed by Alex Proyas, the original “The Crow” grossed $50.7 million at the domestic box office.
The film had been in development Relativity Media with various directors and actors for nearly a decade. It’s been in limbo since the company went bankrupt. Jack Huston had been attached for the lead role. Jason Momoa and Corin Hardy were last on board as star and director but neither is currently attached.
Samuel Hadida’s Davis Films, Highland Film Group, and Electric Shadow previously acquired the rights to finance, produce, and distribute the film. Kevin Misher will also be producing for Misher Films.
Edward R. Pressman, who produced the original 1994 film starring Brandon Lee, will produce alongside Hadida. Highland will also handle international sales.
The original movie centered on a murdered rock star who is resurrected in order to hunt down his killers. Lee died during the film’s production after he was shot with a defective blank.
Miramax released “The Crow” and the 1996 sequel “The Crow: City Of Angels,” which starred Vincent Perez as the lead character Eric Draven.
Momoa is starring as Aquaman in the upcoming “Justice League” and “Aquaman.” Hardy is directing New Line’s Conjuring Universe spinoff “The Nun.”

Momoa is not a selling point for me. I would prefer to see someone in the role who can actually act. I still love the original movie, but not against a new one, just as long as they do it right.

I have never watched the sequel, and of course none of the other "movies", or series?. The Crow is one of my favorite movies.
I've been watching 90's movies with my daughter, since she was 9, she's 11, and I promised her that we would watch The Crow when she's 12. We already watched The Matrix and some other R rated movies, but The Crow is more mature I think. And no, we won't watch Pulp Fiction soon

Did Charlie Brown ever get to actually kick the football? Because that's how I feel about Crow sequels. I'll hold out hope that it works this time.

Its going to be a movie closer to the original comic book story, and probably paying some respect to the Proyas movie.

Yea, that's what they all say. I remember being excited for it back when the Edward Furlong one came out. The Crow is the only one that worked.

City of Angels was all right. It was boosted by having Iggy Pop in a role, and Deftones (not ours, the band) in a small scene.

I fell asleep in City of Angels at the theater. Tried to watch it again on video and gave up halfway through.

It has a lot of the right pieces, it just doesn't work as a whole. Mood, setting, cinematography, story, all pretty good. The only place it really falls flat is forgettable villains.

I actually sat through this....holy sweet goddamn! Talk about unwatchable! However, something said in the movie, would have worked better in a different movie: "Somebody owes me two lifetimes and a pair of perfect blue eyes." I feel the worst for David Boreanaz, he looked very unhappy in this movie.

If I remember correctly - they really gave it their all. And told us that this was the return of a good Crow movie. It had lots of positive buzz. Then it came out and was just another disappointing DTV Crow movie. I actually remember being excited to see it. And I bought the DVD the first week it came out.
