"This is a true story"

I went to see the movie "Changeling" last week. At the beginning of the film the title "This is a true story" appeared. This was the first movie I've seen that had this. Theres been many movies that have stated "Based on a true story" but never have i seen a movie to have the guts to say the movie is completely true. Has there ever been a movie that has said this before? I cant believe changeling is 100 percent truth.

The screenplay included actual newspaper clippings showing exact dialogue from the people involved. Does it mean it was a 100% true story... probably not. But it was the main hook of the film.

Speaking of Changeling, can you give us your review?

I wouldn't read much into it. They probably meant the same thing as "based on a true story."

Oh, and Fargo!

It was okay. Not the best Eastwood movie but certainly not the worse. There were many parts that could've been trimmed down. I thought at one point it would end but then it kept going. Angelina Jolie and John Malcovich gave good performances throughout. Overall i'd say it's mediocre at best. Wait for dvd on this one.

This is quite possibly the most worthless Thread created in the nine-year history of DVDTalk.

Great observation for someone who's been a member for a whopping two months!

Here's an newspaper article from Los Angeles, published almost 10 years ago, describing the case in question - please do not read this if you haven't seen the movie yet -

Is Changeling any more truer than Miracle At St. Ana

They didn't say the movie is "completely" true. You're reading something into it. They simply say "This is a true story."

And it is "true"... as much as any two hour movie can be in recounting events that occur over a timespan longer than that.

while it maybe a true story they omitted many characters from the Film including the chicken farm guy's mom and ( other ) sister who were at the ranch with him. Also the mom gave the kid a dime to go to the movies in real life and the Nephew was not here at his own will in real life. There are also no records beyond about mid 1940 about what happend to the mom ( jolie )

Every episode of "The Real World" starts with with that phrase. I still don't believe it.

All the events in the script are based on research of what actually happened at the time. The only thing that isn't necessarily accurate would be a lot of the dialogue (which has to be speculated).

JMS did a lot of research on the story to make sure it was factually accurate (which probably accounts for the stretches that people think run a bit slow or too long).
