What about DeNiro in Taxi Driver?

Even though the whole point of the movie was Travis Bickle's alienation, his scenes with Iris were pretty touching (except for the last one, of course).

Then again, Jodie was 14 years old at the time

Which is pretty sad, considering these two boys are supposed to be a couple offscreen as well.

Matthew Perry and anyone. Not that films like Fools Rush In would have been very good regardless, but Whole Nine Yards would have been a very good goofball comedy were it not for it being practically ruined by the complete lack of believability of Perry and Henstridge as a couple.

Jim Carrey and Zooey Deschanel in "Yes Man".

It seemed like they were trying to make Jim's character about 10 years younger than Jim actually is by making Zooey the love interest and Bradley Cooper and Danny Masterson his friends.

Yeah, the age difference had me scratching my head initially as well. Carrey flat-out looks substantially older than everyone in the movie.

But once I got past that, I actually thought Carrey/Deschanel had great chemistry in that movie. Then again, I think Zooey Deschanel could have fantastic chemistry with a tree if she needed to.

Actually, Yes Man, in general, has grown on me a bit since being relatively unimpressed with it initially. It's surprisingly rewatchable when nothing is on and HBO is available.

Yeah, that threw me off as well. I don't think it was so much the actual age difference, not like we haven't seen older dudes with younger women before, but his character acts like it was meant for someone younger to play it.

I think thats what makes the movie weird, because you are right. Pierce and Denise are awful together, but I think Pierce and Sophie have incredible chemistry. I'm not sure thats the way the movie was intended, but thats the way it goes sometimes.

I know it's kind of a catch 22 example, but Tom Hanks and Helen Hunt in Castaway.
I couldn't see them as a couple even though we mainly see their interaction in the last act.
