I liked the Burton remake as well. It was competent and entertaining. Not a great film like the original but it didn't try to be. The ending made no sense except to set up a sequel that we will never see.

I thought it was so funny that Fox included a card in the dvd release explaining the ending of the Burton film. I didn't think it was that difficult to understand. A lot of people complain about the ending, but that was the only part of the film that worked for me. (And the opening credit sequence) The original couldn't have been topped, so the nod to the book was the best possible way to go. Other than making a sequel, which is the path that should have been taken IMHO.

It would be between Escape and Conquest for me. I like how much more bleak and violent Conquest is, though I admit Escape might be a better film. I guess I'll vote Conquest.
