Apparently the tone of this movie is right out of the Christopher Nolan playbook, even borrowing the ski lodge action scene from Inception.

Not buying it myself, but according to Geeks of Doom:

‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Reboot Delayed For Reshoots?
Jonathan Liebesman‘s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot may be getting pushed back, even though Paramount just released the film’s first full-length trailer a couple days ago. According to a source connected with production, the film is being pushed back in order to complete necessary reshoots. The source claims that roughly one-third of the film is being completely reshot and that producer Michael Bay is personally overseeing work on the film – which has taken away valuable time from his work on Transformers: Age of Extinction post-production.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was slated for an August release, but according to our source, the studio is now aiming for a November/December release and will most likely open during the holiday season.
No word if Liebesman, who directed Battle: Los Angeles and Wrath of the Titans, is returning for reshoots, but it seems like this entire production – from concept to script to shooting – has been plagued with issues.
You’ve got to wonder what it is they’re reshooting. Maybe it’s just your standard “let’s add more special effects and action sequences” scenario – or perhaps the film’s resolution is a mess and needs to be reworked. My money is on the Turtles’ origins.
In the trailer it’s revealed that Shredder (William Fichtner) and April O’Neil’s (Megan Fox) father essentially created the Turtles (by way of creating the ooze). Maybe this new angle isn’t working and they’re going back to fill in the gaps.
No word on which actors are returning for reshoots, but stay tuned to Geeks of Doom for more information as it develops.

I'd say the biggest problem with it is Shredder is pretty lame. I laugh out loud every time when Tatsu says "Your empire flourishes master Shredder!" What empire? His warehouses full of stolen stereo equipment and sporting goods? I get that they wanted to keep the movie pg, but there needs to be a little bit more menace behind the Foot Clan. Otherwise I think the tone and the look of the movie are great. None of the sequels hold a candle to it in my opinion.

Said it once and I'll say it again. Those suits were really good. Especially the ones for the action actors.

Yeah, having watched the blu-ray of the first Turtles movie, it actually aged surprisingly well to me.

I actually enjoy the first movie now more than I was kid. The turtle costumes are great and I find it surprisingly funny.

Having just watched all three this week with our oldest kid (2.5), she laughed at all the slapstick right on cue and likes all the Turtles' colors. The first one really holds up; I like it a lot. The second one has always felt very manufactured, even when I was a kid, but if you watch it knowing they dialed it back on purpose to make a different kind of movie, it's decent. Can't imagine Corey Feldman saying the lines Don says in II so maybe it's okay he wasn't able to do the movie. As for Part III, I decided the story / writing isn't all that bad but the new Turtle suits, new voice for Raph, and Splinter are are really, really terrible. If they used the suits from I or even II it would be a much better movie.
As for this upcoming one, I haven't watched any of the latest incarnation though the toys in the aisle look really cool and there seems to be some excellent connections with the original comics. I think I'd go, though.

Sometimes, a kids movie is more entertaining as an adult. I actually like Little Monsters and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids more now.

The first one is still fantastic, the second one is OK, the third is nearly unwatchable. The newer CGI one (TMNT) is actually pretty good.

I had similar thoughts a few years ago. However, I've pulled out all three original films on DVD for my toddler (she thinks they're awesome!) and had a new thought. All of that stuff the teens are stealing? He's not reselling it. He's letting the teens have it. It's their payment. The money they steal goes to support the Foot. And the teens do all the grunt work just to get a Walkman. In the meantime, NYC gets scared and Shredder is behind the fear. The more I think about it, the more I think it's a good plan.
On a more serious note, does anyone know how Golden Harvest got involved with the first movie? Was the franchise really that tough of a sell to the Hollywood studios at the time. For those that don't know, Golden Harvest is the Hong Kong studio responsible for a lot of the classic HK martial arts films from the 70s and 80s (all the Bruce Lee films, most of Jackie Chan's, etc.).

That chorus of voices has been replaced by that low bass.
I have no moral or aesthetic defense of Secret of the Ooze per se, I understand all of the things which are wrong with it, but God help me, I think it's way too damn much fun to resist.

I think the turtle designs look real good. I would have been happier with this though:

The trailer reminds me of the Amazing Spider-man trailer. I have no interest in seeing this movie but it does look fun and considering the differences between the comic and cartoon, changes in story wouldn't bother me.

I just watched the original film this past Sunday and it actually holds up pretty decently I think. Sure some aspects are dated but it's still very watchable and the Turtles look great. Those costumes look just as good as any CG created creatures look now days if you ask me. I plan to watch The Secret of the Ooze soon as well as Turtles in Time. The second movie is a lot of fun despite some people ragging on it. The first film is better though I agree. I need to get a copy of TMNT at some point as I've actually never seen it.

Almost any extended episode of the original cartoon series was better than TMNT. Maybe I was just too old for that movie, but it also lacked a good narrative. It all just felt a bit silly. That Raf and Leo fight was just stupid.
