Del Toro interview from Wired, with a sidebar detailing all of his upcoming projects.

Thinks for the link.

It's great that del Toro has so many promising projects lined up. But I almost wish he would drop everything (including The Hobbit) and just work on At the Mountains of Madness. There's never been a proper, big budget adaptation of Lovecraft.

And especially if Mr. Hit or Miss Ron Howard is also working on a Lovecraft film. Suppose Howard's movie comes out first, it's a big disappointment, and that just makes it harder for del Toro to get his project off the ground?

Ron Howard doing Lovecraft? Ugh.

I'd rather see Howard tackle Night Shift II: Blazejowski of Glory.

Thanks for the link!

I'm actually excited now about the mention of the novel is is writing (or co-writing) called The Strain. Might have to check it out as I'm a sucker for a good Vampire novel and David Wellington's 13 Bullets, left me sort of disappointed.

Also Del Toro's house is pretty rad

I don't think it would matter at all. No one will see it as a Lovecraft film, it'll be a Ron Howard film. Likewise Del Toro's will be his film. Del Toro should have an even easier time of doing what he wants after The Hobbit which is a guaranteed hit. I think his best opportunity to do Madness is after The Hobbit.

People like us might look at it that way. Critics and industry types might look at it that way. But the general public sure as hell won't. And unfortunately, studios heads care way more about the opinions of that last group than any of the others.

Remember a few years ago when Baz Luhrmann was planning a film about Alexander? But then Oliver Stone's film came out and it was such a commercial and critical disaster (though I loved it) that it tainted the waters for any other film about about Alexander.

Now perhaps Luhrmann changed his mind about the project on his own. But if Stone's film had been a success, wouldn't Luhrmann have been given every financial opportunity possible to make his film?

But I hope you're right that del Toro is just waiting until after the Hobbit is out and he is in a position to make his dream project (Madness, I hope) like Jackson did with King Kong.
