Silents didn't lack everything technically. They lacked color and sound. In other areas, they were far more technically proficient than sound films were for many years.

I don't think these three have been mentioned yet:

THE WIND
SHOW PEOPLE
THE CAT AND THE CANARY (worth seeing for the animated intertitles alone)
