Got my ticket for the Regal Majestic in Silverspring MD. while it may be a "fake" IMAX, the screen is massive and the room can hold near 500 people

Fake IMAX or not, the sound upgrade is worth the money.

The sound maybe..but I need the whole package and I'm not paying for something unless it's the whole damn deal.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises (Nolan)

Strange that the first link doesn't list the Metreon in San Francisco, but the second shows it's a 1570 (and I've been there twice).

I'm hesitant to purchase just yet, as I'm not sure if that AMC theater has somehow added a fake IMAX and lumps the showtimes for the fake and real IMAX.

This doesn't list the Tempe Harkins Imax at AZ Mills Mall but it definitely is real Imax. That's where I got my tix.

I just hope the IMAX audio has been cleaned up since the prologue, so Bane is audible.

Since when has the Metreon had an authentic IMAX? I thought the only one there was "LieMAX" as it is.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises (Nolan)

I'll try to watch this at IMAX on opening weekend. But I hate standing in lines. Hopefully the fanbase gets their fill and I can watch it on a Monday morning.

Huh? The Metreon definitely has a real IMAX (if you're referring to the one in San Francisco). I saw The Matrix Reloaded there.

Yes, I'm referring to the one there (is there another Metreon theater somewhere?). I don't go to that one often but the few times I have I don't recall there being a real IMAX theater in that building unless it's on a separate floor.

Color me surprised.

They need something like "Happy Rainbow Horse Petting" thrown in there.

Calculated out, that's 51:20, so about average. Plus, I assume some cues in the film were culled from Batman Begins and The Dark Knight especially given TDK's score clocked in at over 2 hours.

It should play the 60s Batman theme during the final fight between Batman and Bane.

I assumed there wasn't another Metreon, but I figured I'd hedge my bets.

I can't remember if it's on a separate level or not, but it's definitely 15 perf 70mm.

I think by now you should know what theaters in your town have real Imax.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises (Nolan)

Yeah the Metreon's Imax theater is definitely a real Imax theater and it's located at the far right end of the complex.

My local theater, which converted to digital IMAX last year, announced they're going to be showing the 70mm version of The Dark Knight Rises due to requests from Warner Brothers.

Which begs two questions:
  1. Why even bother to convert to digital IMAX in the first place?
  2. Is it that easy for a theater to go from digital to 70mm at the near drop of a hat?

Re: The Dark Knight Rises (Nolan)

No, it is not easy for a theater to install an IMAX 70mm system. Was that theater previously film IMAX? Perhaps they have old equipment they can fire up again.

As to the first question, I think the answer should be obvious: Theaters charge more for digital IMAX and pay a fraction of the costs associated with the format. The downside is it looks like shit compared to 15 perf 70.
