the funny thing about the Scanner's head explosion was that it was done very crudely - with a shotgun... hey go with the flow. The scene in uncut form then had the headless victim slumping to the table with all this blood flowing out of its neck.

likewise, the exploding head in Raiders of the Lost Ark originally didn't have the fire covering up all the grue and gore, the addition was to appease the MPAA and not have the film go out with a R-rating.

I've never seen it, since it was censored for American audiences, but the head decapitation with a shotgun of Willem Dafoe's character in WILD AT HEART was very gory in the uncut international print of the film.

I can think of is Police Story 3: Supercop. Duck, You Sucker was already brought up as well as The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly

You don't find the satirical overuse of "multiple cameras" during an explosion to be funny?

It reminded me watching action movies as a kid and them always using at least three cameras to film an explosion.

The boat explosion in Parallax View. The scene itself is directed with such an opaque, minimalist style that the explosion itself is quite startling, as it seems to come out of nowhere.
