But Zoe Bell is in it too...! That makes up for Barrymore (I'm not a fan of hers personally...she's never made anything that hit my fancy)

My wife, who does roller derby, kept the trailer open on the browser so I would know it's out. She heard me watching it and walked it at the end to see what I thought. I looked at her and we had this conversation:
Me: "It's full of illegal hits."
Her: "Yep."
Me: "You couldn't do any of that in an actual league game, could you."
Her: "Nope."
Me: "People are going to come to your bouts expecting elbows to the face and that sort of thing."
Her: "Maybe, but at least it's getting derby out there."
Me: "Yeah, right. You know how whenever I tell people I teach improv they say, 'Oh, you mean like Who's Line Is It Anyway?' and I begrudgingly say, 'Sure'? Get ready to tell people you do roller derby so they'll say, 'Oh, you mean like Whip It!' and you get to begrudgingly say, 'Sure.'"
Her: "...You're taking me to this movie."

Ellen Page plays "Bliss" a teenaged girl who is smarter than everybody else in the room, and knows it. Bliss hides her true emotions behind flippant remarks and snarky sarcasm.

Eh, looks good for at least one viewing when it comes out on DVD.
I'm more of a fan of the "old school" Roller Derby of the 70's when Joanie Weston of the Bay Bombers ruled the track.

Really enjoyed this, it's a very cute film. Ellen Page is perfect in this role, found her infinitely more watchable in this than in "Juno." And Daniel Stern is awesome. Props to Drew Barrymore on her directorial debut.

There's a couple more pics here. It'd a big "meh" for me, especially considering how much I don't like Ellen Page. Yeah, she's cute and all...but man, I'm tired of her.

I saw the trailer in front of 500 Days of Summer and it seemed interesting. Probably not something i'd watch in theaters, but looks entertaining as a rental for me.

I miss all sports, so why not this one? I just remember the good old days of Roller Derby (late '70s - early '80s) and it was nothing more than a hoax of a sport (like wrestling) that existed solely for guys to come out and gawk at scantily-dressed girls. I imagine that last part hasn't changed much.
