add in soundtrack cash, merchandising and the fact that it resurrected a 28 year old wholly owned IP. I'm willing to bet that there's a sequel in the works.

Re: Tron 2 Announced at SDCC!!

I hope so. Finally saw this in IMAX yesterday. Fucking amazing. It's been years since I saw an IMAX movie and this was the first time in 3-D. Screen almost felt too big at the beginning. Even the IMAX 3-D glasses are more comfortable than the traditional ones.

Anyway, I realized yesterday that Tron will be the first and only movie I've seen 3 times in the theatres. Even when Lord of The Rings was out I only saw each twice. Crazy. I guess on the 3rd viewing I finally began to see what most might not like about it, but I still loved it.

I wouldn't hold your breath on that. It's certainly possible, but at this point it's certainly not a go.

Wouldn't the early work done on a new sequel treatment constitute a partial go?

Not really. Until an official greenlight is given, it's not a go. Development on titles pretty much always happens prior to a greenlight is given...doesn't mean the movie will actually be made.

With Tron...well, the thing didn't bomb, but it did underperform. We'll see.

Re: Tron 2 Announced at SDCC!!

Kind of funny that as I wrack my brain to find a movie to compare Tron Legacy to, the closest comparisons I can find are the Matrix sequels (not to imply the original Tron is remotely as good as the first Matrix), but Legacy pretty much fails in all the same places as the Matrix sequels and both hit very similar story beats...but fails even worse, both in terms of script and especially in terms of directing. Hell, even the one single aspect of Tron Legacy that I could describe as good, the Daft Punk score, may be nice, but the techno infused scores from the Matrix sequels were used far more effectively within the actual movies.

I guess Tron Legacy is a special kind of awful. Usually bad movies just leave my system and I forget about them, but Tron Legacy kind of just festers in the back of my mind (doesn't help that I ended up seeing it twice) and im constantly finding new things to dislike about it.

Re: Tron 2 Announced at SDCC!!

I like both Tron movies more than any of the Matrix movies. Even the first doesn't hold up as well and you have to kinda ignore the sequels as they diminish the original Matrix even more. I guess I just like the ideas behind Tron far more than the Matrix series. Also the girls are hotter.

Re: Tron 2 Announced at SDCC!!

Seen it five times, and the only thing I dislike about it was the lack of Rinzler/Tron/Quorra screentime.

I left my brain at the door and wasn't expecting some Oscar-caliber masterpiece.

I was just looking for a kick-ass ride and it would appear I've found it

Damn, you beat me. Three, and possibly counting (might check out another IMAX showing).

Five times!? Holy shit! I left my brain at the door too the first and only time I saw this. But did anyone expect an Oscar caliber film on any level?

Kudos for being able to sit through it 5 times.

I wanted to stick a knife in my eye about 40 minutes in.

Re: Tron 2 Announced at SDCC!!

Saw this today, in the 3D. I thought there were a couple of scenes that showed it off decently, and a couple of scenes where the 3D was more subtle but did add to it. I don't mind the real-life 2D, that makes sense, but overall it does seem like the 3d was underwhelming. Then again, some movies toss in scenes that are there solely to show off the 3d and they actually take you out of the movie.
I thought the 3D preview of Green Hornet showed off the 3d better - although it's very possible that they included all the best 3D scenes in it.

It wasn't Citizen Kane, but it was fun and energetic and definitely cool to look at and listen to. I have seen the original, but I don't remember specifics about it. And I agree, Bridges' 80s-isms were a little distracting.

Re: Tron 2 Announced at SDCC!!

I'm happy it's successful enough to garner a sequel.

I was surprised by the bad reviews so this is good news. I'm a little wary though because Legacy was so good, and I hope the sequel doesn't let down.

The weird thing is I never really thought about The Matrix comparison until I recently saw the original Tron. For some reason, Inception reminded me alot more of the Matrix. I guess I viewed the world in Legacy as more like a through-the-looking-glass kind of secret world, instead of what it really is, being trapped in a computer.

Re: Tron 2 Announced at SDCC!!

Glad to hear a sequel should be coming. I loved Legacy, thought it was a ton of fun. I'd like to see Murphy's character expanded, as well as some golden moments with TRON. I liked his redemption, but I wanted it to be a bit more grand before his exit.

Now that the universe has been re-established I think a sequel could be great. They should get the Pixar brain trust involved at the beginning and see where their imaginations can take the story.

And hire a director with action experience. This one better be much faster-paced.

ditto....

I'm game for another one. The world is very interesting to me...it's just the execution of the events is lacking for me.

The way I see a sequel being good:

Hire new writers.
Hire a new director.
Get rid of Hedlund.
Keep Wilde.

Found a pretty good deal for those who like the music. Tron: Legacy (Amazon MP3 Exclusive Version) [+Digital Booklet] - $4.99

Found this while searching thru amazon a minute ago. Was going to pick up the cd but for $5 I settled for the download. Plus it has an exclusive track. No idea how long it will be on sale for so move quick.

Hopefully they follow through though...I'd like more.
