I wasn't implying it. Walter Carlos had a sex change operation and became Wendy Carlos. He (and then she) also happened to be the pre-eminent electronic composer of the day, so when Lisberger wanted an electronic score, Carlos was the obvious choice.

I'll be seeing this once more (in IMAX) before the New Year, which will make four screenings for me. I just can't get enough of this film.
Yeah... Sam does absolutely zero flips or kung fu in this film. Quorra on the other hand is simply a Bad Ass.

I thought at first they were joking but reading their posts again I think you are right and they didn't get the connection.

Wow...is it bad that I thought that CLU was Kurt Russel the entire time? I really didn't know it was Jeff Bridges until after the movie, and now I just find out he's CG'd as well.

As far as I'm concerned, Daft Punk's great score is reason enough to see this movie.

(If they don't get an Oscar nomination, I'll be PO'ed!)

Yeah, I've been listening to the soundtrack and it's cool to wonder about what influences they may have drawn from; the track Outlands reminds me of Basil Poledouris especially the ending sequence which matches "Lights On" from Cherry 2000.

The score's overall style of combining synthesizers with a real symphony orchestra was influenced primarily by the original Tron score by Wendy Carlos, which was apparently a very difficult score to pull together, based on this old article on it written by Bob Moog. (Yes, THE Bob Moog!)

EDIT: This is interesting but I dunno how factual the claims might be.

This article from the two has them saying they wanted to do orchestral compositions; honestly, I don't see Daft Punk getting the job and not leaving if Disney really rejected their work.
More likely, this stuff is from someone trying to get famous.

Re: Tron 2 Announced at SDCC!!
I haven't seen Tron: Legacy yet as I'm waiting to see it with a friend of mine, but I did receive sorta-awesome news at Christmas. My brother - a media composer who has also found success in commercial sampling - is pretty sure that Daft Punk used one some of his drum samples on a track or two. He can't be for certain, but he was only made aware of it after a few different composers questioned him on it due to the similarities. Of course, I'm elated because I was one of the guys hitting one of the drums so there is a small chance that a drum beat on the soundtrack could have emanated from yours truly! I suppose there's no easy way of finding out for sure, but it's not entirely out of the question because his samples have been used in some pretty big name projects before. [Bragging] In the past, my brother was approached by someone from U2's camp about using drum samples for a tour and, more recently, his original compositions were used in TV trailers for the remakes of Alice in Wonderland and Hairspray. Sorry if this sounds like bragging - I'm just his biggest fan and vicariously live through him I think! [/Bragging]
Either way, this soundtrack kicks major butt! I'm no aficionado when it comes to music or soundtracks (that's my brother's expertise), but I'd rank this up there with The Social Network, John Adams and There Will Be Blood as one of my favorite soundtracks in recent memory. The main thing they have in common is that I can play the first track, get lost in it while I'm busy doing things on the computer, and listen to it all the way through before I know it.
Honestly, I wasn't really looking forward to watching the sequel in theaters despite my love for Jeff Bridges. Listening to this soundtrack is making me think otherwise.

Saw it again today in DP 2D. Enjoyed it even more the second time. And I'm in love with the soundtrack too.

Re: Tron 2 Announced at SDCC!!

I just wish there was one release of the soundtrack with all of the music on it. So far I count 4 separate releases with their own exclusive tracks: (1) the iTunes release has 2 exclusive tracks, (2) the Amazon release has 1 exclusive track, (3) the Nokia release has 1 exclusive track, and then (4) theres' a 2-CD special release with 5 exclusive tracks.
That's 9 extra tracks that aren't available in one place!

Re: Tron 2 Announced at SDCC!!
It pisses me off that they are not only exclusive to these websites but that they are mp3's. How can you offer consumers a partial lossless compilation and not expect people to be pissed?
Hopefully there is a real deluxe edition down the road that covers all of the tracks.

Re: Tron 2 Announced at SDCC!!
Going to see this tomorrow for the third time. =) Let no one say I wasn't doing my part for it's box office. I'm mainly going because we just got a new IMAX theater here and I haven't had the chance to see it in IMAX yet.
I think this may seriously be my favorite movie of the year. Can't understand why it's getting slammed. But I think the score may play more a part in making the movie for me than for others. The first Rinzler fight and Light-cycle race are seriously two of the most epic scenes I've seen committed to film.
