Best James Cameron Movie

Which one do you think is James Cameron's best movie?

RichC2 07-24-08 09:00 AM

True Lies.

Yeah, Aliens and Terminator 2 were fantastic action flicks, and Terminator was a cool little movie and The Abyss was heady and Titanic is the highest grossing movie of all time. But True Lies is my favorite action/comedy (I grew up with it, so that gives it extra bias), and I love that genre.

Larry C. 07-24-08 09:04 AM

The Terminator........

Geofferson 07-24-08 09:23 AM

Tough call between T1/Aliens -- went with Aliens.

B5Erik 07-24-08 09:24 AM

1. Aliens
2. Terminator 2
3. The Abyss
4. Titanic
5. Terminator
6. True Lies

Man, has his break from feature films been just a wee bit too long, or what?

Maxflier 07-24-08 10:01 AM

True Lies.

Matthew Ackerly 07-24-08 10:17 AM

The Terminator

Trevor 07-24-08 10:17 AM

T1.

I'll never understand how anyone can like T2 over T1.

Randy Miller III 07-24-08 10:20 AM

Oh, I love T1 dearly, but T2 is hands-down my favorite.
But I've never liked Aliens all that much, so I'm used to being the minority.

1. Terminator 2
2. The Terminator
3. True Lies
4. The Abyss
5. Aliens / Titanic (flame suit on)

valkyrie 07-24-08 10:24 AM

Damn, that's a harder list than I thought. I ended up with Aliens, as it is a nearly flawless film, especially the extended version (IMHO).

Kicker_of_Elves 07-24-08 10:25 AM

1. Aliens
2. T2: Judgment Day
3. The Terminator
4. True Lies
5. The Abyss

toddly6666 07-24-08 10:26 AM

Surprisingly over time, it turns out that True Lies is his most rewatchable, most entertaining film - it probably has to do with the mixture of great action and great humor. (humor missing from The Abyss, Titanic, Terminators, and Aliens)

LorenzoL 07-24-08 10:27 AM

T2
Aliens
True Lies
T1
The Abyss/Titanic

fumanstan 07-24-08 10:29 AM

T2 for me, followed by Aliens and True Lies.

abe55 07-24-08 10:37 AM

Interesting little fact: Three of his movies (The Terminator, T2, & Aliens) all have 100% ratings on Rotten Tomatoes.

Any other director with that many movies with perfect scores on RT?

Deftones 07-24-08 10:42 AM

True Lies

islandclaws 07-24-08 11:08 AM

Aliens. I grew up loving that film. T2 would be a close second.

Hulkabrgr 07-24-08 11:09 AM

Are we talking the directo's cut of The Abyss or the theatrical?

chris_sc77 07-24-08 11:13 AM

1. Aliens
2. T2: Judgment Day
3. True Lies
4. Titanic
5. The Terminator
6. The Abyss

I dont look forward to Avatar. It sounds like fuc*ing shit to me. I love Most of Cameron's films (Aliens would be in mt top 20 all-time films with T2 probably in the top 30.) but he needs to get back to story telling and less computer shit.

McHawkson 07-24-08 11:17 AM

It's tough to decide:

1T. The Abyss (Director's Cut)
1T. True Lies
2. T2 (Extended version)
3. Aliens (both versions)
4. T1
5. Titanic

This thread reminds me of a conversation I had with a movie loving friend the other day. I'll risk condemnation by making this observation.

My feeling has always been that the original Terminator and Alien are vastly superior (overall) to their first sequels.

T2 and Aliens may well be more entertaining than the originals, but they don't have all of the other qualities that can make a movie "great. I'm mainly referring to the possibility of films being original and thought-provoking, but I'm sure other qualities could be argued as well.

Aliens and T2 are popcorn action movies. They're great, but light and flimsy.

Please don't call me elitist, I love light and flimsy. But when I see the word "best" in a question/argument, I feel like one must examine all the qualities of a movie, not just it's entertainment value.

slop101 07-24-08 11:43 AM

T2 is hugely flawed just due to the annoying kid factor: "hasta la vista baby" - hey Furlong, fuck you!

lawyer goodwill 07-24-08 11:44 AM

I went with True Lies; T2 is a close second. On a couple of occasions, I have watched Cameron mini-marathons with those two - start with the intense T2, wash it down with lighter True Lies.

I was late to the party for Aliens, but I enjoy that one as well. I saw it for the first time just a few years back. Being a PC gamer, I was immediately reminded at what kind of impact the "space marine" of Aliens had on the gaming industry - namely id's Doom and Quake.
