Whoops .. first thing I thought was "REMAKE."
Looks pretty good ... I wondered what Jesus had been doing lately. The one thing that I would expect from the plot (but don't imagine it will happen) is that the "incident" lays groundwork for parts of Norse mythology.

So I guess Outlander comes out this weekend. Has anyone seen any advertising for it? I've yet to see a single commericial (I'm seeing a hell of a lot of Underworld spots though).

"Outlander" is opening in these cities on Friday:
San Francisco, CA
Chicago, IL
Philadelphia, PA
Washington D.C.
Dallas, TX
Atlanta, GA
Boston, MA
Houston, TX
Seattle, WA
Miami, FL
San Diego, CA
Detroit, MI
Sacramento, CA
Orlando, FL
Tampa, FL
I wouldn't expect too much, if any, advertising. A very positive review will be loaded into DVD Talk's world famous Theatrical Release section on Thursday.

I just got back from seeing this. It was bad ass. Jesus was good for what he had to do as was John Hurt even though it seemed like he was on autopilot. Ron Perlman wasn't in it for that long but he was bad ass while on screen
So yeah, I'd definitely recommend it. But then again I liked "Pathfinder" also, so maybe it's just me.

Looks like it's playing in ONE theater here - it's listed as Sacramento but it's actually outside of town. I may catch it if it's still playing this weekend. I can always use a good "bad movie".

Spoiler:
What struck me most odd was that this particular movie was CHEAPER.. than regular matinee prices! I bought a matinee ticket (which is always $7.50), and the woman gave me my total.. but then she was like "Wait, did you say Outlander?" and I said yeah.. then she said "$5.50". WTF? Man, that set an alarm off that it was going to be as bad as I expected.

Still, wait for the rental if you have to see it. Way too hokey and unbelievable.

Why do the Weinstein's even bother - they railroad movies for no good reason... I had very low expectations but I thought this movie kicked ass. Yeah, the CG sucks and a few of the actions scenes lean too heavily on quick, can't tell what the hell is happening editing - but once this one gets going it never stops. I had a blast with it - just a FUN
B movie. I think if they had given this a proper release with marketing it may have done some decent business with word of mouth... it's basically 13th Warrior/Pathfinder meets Pitch Black/The Descent... if you can look past the low budget FX, you'll have a great time.

I want to see this but it is nowhere around NYC. Also I read some where that this was going to be a big budget pic but the funding fell through. Too bad, the scenario sounds like a pretty good monster movie.

You can tell they just gave up on the CGI. Looks all last-minute.
I don't think that could even save it, though. I'm all for fun B movies but this was garbage.

Re: Outlander-A Sci-Fi Viking Epic
Question: Who remembers what they originally promo'd the 13th Warrior title as? An then proceeded to take forever to release the dam thing.
Anywho, When I think of Outlander all I can think of is Sean Connery weeping in space... but I grew up in the 80's!
Even though I did like 13th Warrior, and haven't seen Pathfinder... I think they could do a good job on Viking/Norse Mythology film given that a director with brain took it on... I guess Hollywood doesn't like a no compromise/violent kind of thinking process. There is a a bit of irony in that.
I'm not sure about the whole past/future connection though, but I'd go see it.

Surely no one would do that.

Re: Outlander-A Sci-Fi Viking Epic
Just watched and color me impressed! It was a very generic movie, but a well done generic movie.
The first half IMO was more entertaining than the second half (but maybe that had to do with the predictability of the story).
I was surprised about the production value. While the CG wasn't the greatest, the rest of the world was fully fleshed out. It felt real. Most of the actors did very well. The only time I had difficulty believing in the actor was (sadly) Ron Perlman and the child. Ron's accent drifted in and out in the limited screen time he had, and the kid spoke with an American accent while everyone else had some sort of European one.
Other than these quips, I would definitely recommend this film - especially if you liked The Thirteenth Warrior and Viking movies. I wish there had been more of the Sci-fi aspect to it, but I'll take an entertaining Viking movie in some shape way or form anyday.
