Apologies to Grosse Pointe Blank and The End of Violence. This should be an interesting battle between Boogie Nights, LA Confidential and The Game, though Fast, Cheap and Out of Control gets my vote - an endlessly inventive, captivating film that will leave your mind whirling.

Titanic
This was the only year where I actually agreed with the Academy, yet it's not even listed in the poll. I know it gets a lot of hate, but really? Oh well. I stand by it.

Titanic (which is still the biggest film of all time and winner of numerous Oscars including Best Picture) doesn't make the poll list but Fast, Cheap and Out of Control does? WTF?
Oh well. My list would probably go:
1.Boogie Nights
2.Good Will Hunting
3.The Ice Storm
Runners up:
A Life Less Ordinary, The Edge, L.A. Confidential

'Hard Eight'... would be my favorite probably... that movie was so special, just to watch the characters and enjoy the dialogue so much you don't give a damn if anything actually happens...
'Donnie Brasco'... i really liked this... Al Pacino actually acted which was nice...
'LA Confidential'... was a classic, stands up to anything from any 'age' of movies... damn near a masterpiece...
'The Edge'... just got out my DVD the other day... it's even better after like 4 or 5 times through...
'Boogie Nights'... really good movie...
'Good Will Hunting'... really good movie...
i thought 'Affliction' was 1998?... IMDB says 1999?... i like it either way... great performances...
wait a minute... does this type of poll go by the year a movie came out or the year it was made?...

LA Confidential, easily. Boogie Nights a distant second.
How is Titanic not a choice? It's not my favorite, but it did win a record-tying 11 Oscars (including Best Picture) and is still the top-grossing movie of all time. There's no logical reason to exclude it from the poll.

Titanic should be a choice on the poll. If you're going to exclude movies based on lack of artistic merit or shameless audience manipulation, then Life Is Beautiful should be nowhere in sight.
