Arrested Development movie confirmed

If anything it will make it all back on DVD so theatrical money is gravy. I'd equate it to a Kevin Smith flick, albeit on a smaller scale. It will be cheap to make, and probably break even at the B.O. Home video is where the studio will earn their returns.

“Arrested Development” fans, rejoice. Your fave TV show is becoming a movie.
That’s according to star Jeffrey Tambor (above) anyway, who yesterday told Steve Weintraub of collider.com that the much-rumored film is a go. Tambor said he talked to “AD” creator Mitch Hurwitz last week, who said it was on.
Tambor didn’t know any specifics about the project, but said that fans can be sure it’s happening.
“When the writer calls you, and the director, and the executive producer calls you, it’s a pretty good sign,” Tambor said in the interview, which you can watch for yourself at Collider.
Tambor said he’s looking forward to revisiting “Arrested Development” and his character, George Bluth Sr.
“We want to close that,” he said. “We want to bring that all to fruition.”
The show starred Tambor, Jason Bateman, Portia de Rossi, Will Arnett, Michael Cera, Tony Hale, David Cross and Jessica Walter, among others.

Not sure how i feel about this. I would love to see all the charecters again, but i thought the show wrapped everything up pretty nicely. Hopefully they put the effort into this like they did Serenity

I'm the biggest AD fan you'll ever meet, and I'm excited for this. I disagree that the series ended on a perfect note. They didn't know if they were going to be around there at the end, and were seemingly going from episode to episode. It couldn't be more obvious that the last few episodes were rushed in order to offer loyal fans at least some sort of "ending" for the series.
If anything this is one of the rare show that not only deserves, but needs a film or something along those lines in order to really bring closure to everything for the fans, and likely for all of those involved in the show in the first place.

I don't think AD's audience is much much bigger than Firefly's.

But you know, there's no way you'll be able to resist.

I'm seeing this day one.
I really don't think that there was a bad episode during the whole run of the series. I don't see it being massively successful like a Sex in the City (that did pretty well, right?)... but I think it's going to be very much loved by and for the fans of the series. I agree with the comparisons to Firefly/Serenity.

Guys, this film has NOT been greenlit; they don't even have a script yet. Yes they're talking about it but they've also been talking about it since the show went off the air. I know Mitch was thinking more about it over the break, but it's not like this is in development.

Capone: A lot of your "Arrested Development" actors have had quite a bit to say about the possibility of a big screen version happening. What's the update?
Ron Howard: Yeah, we're closer than ever. Mitch is really focused on it, the cast seems really interested, the studio [Fox Searchlight] seems to be on board, and God know they've got a narrator who's just chomping at the bit. [laughs] So we don't have a script yet, but we all want it and we want it to be good. We're pushing in that direction and all really pushing together for the first time in ages. So, I think we've got a very good chance of it happening.

The advantage AD has over Firefly is that comedies are a lot easier to sell to an audience than Sci-Fi. Just show GOB getting hit in the nuts a few times during the trailer and it gets a $20 million opening.

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that "Mitch Hurwitz and Ron Howard are reportedly closing deals for the long-gestating project from Imagine and Fox Searchlight."

I have total faith in everyone involved.
Considering they released 3 seasons without one weak episode while always looking over their shoulder wondering if they would be cancelled at any moment...I am not sure how any fan of the show could have a different outlook.
They will nail this.

GOB getting hit in the nuts is not the movie AD fans want to see. The show was a little more sophisticated than that.

for Fox Searchlight taking this one.

Well, the biggest advantage is that comedies like AD are a shit-ton cheaper to produce (especially when compared to sci-fi). Glad to hear today's trade announcement, but I'm still not holding my breath until it actually starts shooting.
