Re: Another 70's horror remake - Last House on the Left
A very exciting, entertaining film! Horror movies are really something. After a hard day's work in the office, tons of stress, there is nothing like a good violent movie to cheer one up!
Tony Goldwyn should be in more movies...and Monica Potter is old and/or plastic.
And it's the kid from Gladiator all grown up!
And it's the mermaid from Aquamarine, playing a swimmer again!

I went and saw it last night, and I really liked it.
I wish they would have stayed a little closer to the first one, but the acting was pretty good and the movie was entertaining

What a fucking piece of shit. Aside from some cool shots and some minor tension, this lost the entire core of what the '72 version was all about. Monica Potter is atrocious. How does she even get work? I didn't buy the turn to vengeance. The very end scene was retarded beyond words.

I thought he looked really familiar, did anyone see people walk out? I saw several people walk out during the rape scene.

My DVDTalk review just went up: http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/36619...left-2009-the/ and I have a few more positive things to say than Brian Orndorf.

I don't know why people keep referring to this as "torture porn" (or perhaps that's what younger generations weened on Saw and Hostel call it...). It's a "rape/revenge film", a sub genre of 70's exploitation films. Maybe I'm nitpicking or I'm just too old.

Re: Another 70's horror remake - Last House on the Left
am going to see the remake tonight with a friend. Haven't seen the original yet (it's somewhere on my Netflix queue) but according to what everyone here at the forum is saying, sounds like the original's way better.
I'll tell you all my review later.

Re: Another 70's horror remake - Last House on the Left
When i saw it tonight at least 4 people walked out during the rape. Pretty hard, disturbing movie, like the original was, but I enjoyed it... it was tense, tough to watch and disturbing, just like I had hoped it would be. I thought the acting was very decent and Garrett Dillahunt was awesome and the directing was really sharp. I know this kind of flick isn't for everyone but I think it's pretty apparent that this is a well made movie, even if you're not into the subject matter, but a lot of reviews are flat out dismissing this one because it's a remake/torture porn and I think that's a damn shame. If you like this kind of movie, you're going to have a great time riding the edge of your seat. 3.5/5

Can someone who's seen the original recently tell me
It was surprisingly decent, very violent flick (although the original does go further) Too bad all the surprises were spoiled in various tv spots and trailers.

Watched it tonight with a friend of mine.
I love the original and oddly I thought the remake was enjoyable. Not a great movie by any means nor does it even touch the original, but I laughed/clapped at many of the scenes in the final portion of the film. I agree with KillerCannibal about the score. With so many horror movies now being flooded by Rock/Heavy Metal flavor-of-the-week bands, it was nice to see an actual score to go along with a new Horror film for a change.
I was entertained, so I felt like I got my money's worth

. When the final portion of the film came about, almost everyone in the theater was cheering, yelling and clapping along. Pretty neat

Oh and whats funny is that my mom somehow had the notion that she thought she had seen the original before and asked to borrow my copy. She told me after i got back from the remake with my dad, that it was one of the worst movie's she's ever seen with some of the worst acting ever. well, they don't call em amatature exploitations movies for nothin. I thought honestly that the bad guys in the original were pretty decent actors, granted the parents and the bumbling cops were pretty cringe worthy.

Re: Another 70's horror remake - Last House on the Left
wow...along with watching a DVD of Showgirls this week,...the rape scene in The Last House on the Left makes two rape scenes I've seen in one week, and I was disappointed with both of them!
I went with a friend of mine to see Last House. She told me she's normaly "above" these types of slasher movies. She told me last week "I don't like them. They just don't do anything for me." And so she and I went along with a male friend of hers... he got disturbed by the rape scene and ended up walking out. He went to go see The Pink Panther 2 or 3 or whatever it is.
My friend was extremely annoyed by the gore factor in the movie. She hated when people got killed, even if they were charecters that had a right to be killed. And yet after the movie ended, she told me "I liked that movie. It was different because the nice, sweet little family went after the villans."
I on the other hand was grossed out by the gory scenes and especialy durring the first major long, drawn-out gore scene (the one in the house), I had to look away... because I knew I'd have nightmares if I saw it. I was happier about the ending gore scene though... and I did find alot of parts in the movie to be funny. So did thee majority of the audience..... that is, other than my friend who took the whole entire movie seriously and diden't laugh or clap once.
I was really hopeful that this movie would be good, but once it got to the end I was extremely disappointed. It felt like it was too short of a movie. It made me feel like everything wrapped up way too fast. I woulden't even consider renting this on DVD for the special features.
now I'm off to adding the original version to the top of my Netflix queue. From what I hear, that version's better.

I thought the movie was to tame in the torturing of the girls. It only lasted like 10-15 mins and didn't seem that shocking either. The movie had no edge and seemed like a hard-edge Lifetime movie.

Gotta love people...As I'm walking out of the theater, I see a little black kid who couldn't have been older than five or six with his mom. I'm sure there were also some more youngn's in the theater as well. What the hell is wrong with people?

At least take the kids to see Watchmen if you are gonna take them to an R-Rated film, something more special than this movie at least!
