Did a blind buy on this after seeing the trailer before Let The Right One In. The visuals are all remarkable, but there were only a handful of songs I really enjoyed, and often the lyrics were pretty crappy. The worst moment, by far, was when the daughter, in defiance of her dad, starts singing about how she's 17 and it turns into a fantasy rock show. It was just ridiculous and cheesy, in a movie that had valiantly shied away from cheese up to that point.

I purchased the film today and watched it almost immediately. I'm not sure if I liked it or not. I was quite tired at the time and really shouldn't have watched it just then. Oh well, I'll probably revisit it in the near future.

Yeah, I know. I didn't mean I liked it in a perverted way. I just liked the scene and the song.

I think it's just amazing that this film has only made $146.7K in the U.S. ($31.1K in the rest of the world), and it got a BD release. AND they're talking about sequels.

Yesterday, Repo was number 39 on the amazon bestsellers list. That's pretty good, I would say.

Oh, I agree. But there are recent films out there that have grossed ten times more than "Repo" that weren't released on BD when it was released on video. And have no plans of being released. It's a very lucky little film. And quite honestly, it looks terrific on BD. So thumbs up for someone having faith in this little seen movie. It's one that will be talked about for years. And (fingers crossed) will have midnight showings one day. Would be cool if they dressed up too like "Rocky Horror".

When I first saw this movie I just liked it, but after a few more viewings I am addicted like Amber Sweet is to the knife. i cannot stop watching it and I love, love, love the soundtrack. It has moved into my CD player and doesn't seem to be leaving anytime soon. I hope they do more. I NEED it.

And that gets a huge freaking HALLELUJAH from me. IAWTC. I'm not particularly into anything gory, but AH sealed it for me. I am also a fan of Sarah Brightman, so that just made it that much better... though I have to admit the Graverobber made the movie for me. That guy needs to be making albums, too. I have the Blu-Ray and now the soundtrack and a copy of the movie are on my iPod as well. Good stuff.

^he was actaully one of the creators of the play. according to wikipedia he also made the storyboards for "Into the Wild" and "Bedazzled" and he drew all the comic book stuff.
Also until the end credits, i actually didn't recoignize Bill Mosley, granted i'm mostly used to seeing him in the Rob Zombie movies.

I'm writing my review right now -- it should be up later today -- and I can confirm that the Blu-ray disc is slightly letterboxed to 1.85:1 and that at least on my setup, there are zero framing issues with heads or comic text being lopped off.

The R2 standard dvd is going to include some of the extras that were included on the US BD but not the standard dvd, so I wonder if it will be framed differently as well.

I grabbed a couple of shots from the Blu-ray disc in case anyone wants to compare it to the (misframed?) DVD:
This is the first frame where "Amber Sweet" isn't translucent anymore (2:32):

The first frame where both of these text boxes are solid (2:49):

(That last panel does move, so if you're watching on a set with heavy overscan, you'll still see Rotti Largo when it shifts. I'm watching dot-for-dot with zero (or close enough to it) overscan, so everything comes through perfectly for me. At 5% overscan on each side, the text still ought to be visible, though, although the edge of the box will be cropped off.)

i was watching the 'at the movies' show with ben lyons and the guy on tcm. Anyways they were doing their list of the worst movies of 08, and Lyons actually named 'repo' as the worst of the year. The other dude had 'indiana jones' as his worst movie

I'm not saying that, everyone is saying that.
And Indiana Jones as the worst film of 2008? Ben Mankiewicz is a fucking moron too.

Ben Lyons is a cocksucking douche.
If he hates a movie, I'll probably enjoy it.
He thought the new Punisher film was a joke because of it's ridiculous violence. Uh... derrrrr! Dork.

I enjoyed Repo!...It was kinda like Southland Tales, Rocky Horror Picture Show and a Marilyn Manson music video all rolled up.
