Batman: Gotham Knight...Who's picking it up?

You can see a five minute preview here.

I, for one, will love seeing this on Blu-Ray on July 8, and it's supposed to tie in with the Animated Series and the Batman Begins films. I'm not too keen on the animation I've seen, but Kevin Conroy as Bruce's voice warrants a big from me. He is the cartoon voice for me, and I instinctively hate the 'toons who use someone else as a voice actor.

Thoughts?

I watched this last night and I was pretty disappointed. Only 2 of the 6 segments are any good.

How were the bonus Animated Series episodes Bruce Timm supposedly hand-picked for the disc? Seeing them on Blu-Ray should be cool, especially if WB is thinking about releasing the whole BTAS (wishful thinking) on BD...

Oh, by the way, I knew from the instant Sal Marconi opened his mouth that it was the legendary voice actor Rob Paulsen, best known by me as Raphael on TMNT.

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/mqe7StMc1Xo&hl=en"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/mqe7StMc1Xo&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

He's been in a ridiculous amount of television...I wish voice actors were more widely recognized...you know, like the crazy fan worship above.

If you have Comcast on Demand you can watch a complete episode called "Field Test".

I'm blind buying it on Blu Ray. I personally am stoked for it. I hope these are as inventive as the Animatrix was...

I'll be picking it up, but I may wait until December, when TDK is released on Blu. I have a feeling we might get a "Buy The Dark Knight and get Gotham Knight for $10" kind of deal. Or at least I'm hoping.

Pre-ordered for months here also.
And I'll rebuy any of the DC Animated stuff if it is released in HD.

I watched the DVD yesterday. It's very fair. Nothing special at all. The best story/animation is the first one (where Batman is interpreted as a beast). Very fair stuff. It's just Blah. Not bad, not good, just blah!

I thought the best was the one where it shows Bruce learning to deal with pain and anger. The first one with Batman as a monster was also well done.

do u have the 1-d or 2?, because i was wondering if the extras were good enough to compensate for the lackluster shorts...

Scott1598, the only reason I rationalized buying the 2-disc was because the 2nd disc has 4 episodes from the Batman cartoon. I haven't watched those yet, but if I knew of the lacking reviews, I would have passed totally on both editions...

The first story was done before in TAS but better.

Yeah, I remember that episode (first season?). Still thought the story was good with the different faces of Batman.

I also enjoyed the first story the best. I didn't see it done in TAS, so it was fresh to me. And the animation was pretty unique.

Yeah, it was a good story but seeing the Frank Miller version animated was cooler.

It was done quite late in the series if memory serves. Towards the end, around the time when Batman Beyond was starting up (damn I miss those shows). And I agree it was done FAR better on the TV show. The style of animation was completely changed for every story on the TV show, on the DVD only Batman's look is changed.

My favorite on the DVD was Deadshot.

Yeah, I remember it was a later Batman with the Frank Miller spin.

Long story short, I think if you like Batman, you'll enjoy it, not love it dearly, but enjoy, and if you're ambivalent concerning the source material, you'd probably hate it.

I did like seeing the 4 eps, though...

I believe that episode is actually from the final season of the show. And the best part is when:

Spoiler:
The kids walk by this flamboyant kid, who's dressing up a mannequin with a boa, and he says, "I heard Batman's suit has nipples on it, and his Batmobile can drive up walls!" And one of the kids says, "Oh, shut up, Joel!"

It was indeed the last season. It was titled "Legends of the Dark Knight".

Here's the part w/ the Frank Miller style art.
