I must admit that as much as WS annoys me due to his playing basically different levels of "Will Smith" in each of his roles and not the actual character, I must also admit that I've generally liked every film I've seen him in....yes, even in the so-called worst movie ever..."Hitch"
What can I say? I was entertained and that's all that matters. |

But now I just can't take this guy anymore. I've heard stories about him before. One being from the Wild Wild West shoot. Will Smith had a funny line that he couldn't get it right. Kevin Kline did the same line and nailed it. Smith went crazy and demanded his line be the one they used in the movie. Just recently, he was interview by A.J. Calloway on Extra. A.J. is a pretty good looking black guy. You wouldn't believe how Will was trying to make himself a bad ass in this interview. Kept trying to make this guy feel small by calling him "kid" and "son". Then he has to jump in on Charlize Theron's interview. Does this guy need anymore face time? Geez. The guy just reeks of fakeness to me. Unfortunately, it looks like his kids are going to have an equal if not greater ego then he has. |
I don't really care one way or the other but him becoming involved deeply in the cult of scientology is more troubling than anything he's said in or outside of movies.

I find him the most likable actor in pictures these days and will see just about anything he's in.

I like Will Smith, and I agree he does varying levels of "Will Smith" in movies. I like most of his movies, but the most joy comes from that one moment in the movie where he says AWW HELL NAW! It's the "I'll be back" of the late 90's and 00's. |

Was that the movie about interracial relationships? He was good in that. But most of his performances in a movie nowadays seem fake to me. Like he's just in it for the money. |

Not only that, he stated that this wasn't true. I believe that if he were to accept Scientology as his "faith", he wouldn't be inclined to say it wasn't true. |

The difference between actors and movie stars is that movie stars essentially play variations of themselves, which is what makes them movie stars. Will Smith is one of many, and while I haven't seen everything he's done, I intend to. |
Will Smith is cool. All of his movies are fun to watch. In the Bad Boys movies, he came off as a douchebag - and that always bothered me.
From an Article: "Will Smith has insisted that he is not a "particularly talented" actor. Smith claimed that his continuing success on the big screen is the result of a strong work ethic, rather than his acting abilities." From an Interview: 'I like to play people who grab ahold of reality'. (that's roughly what he said ... I couldn't find it online). I remember listening to DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince when I was 4-7-ish. It's cool that he kept working all this time. And would people just leave scientology alone? It's a relatively peaceful code of ethics. There's been a lot more crazy assumptions, worship and violence in Christianity. |
Will Smith appears to be a pretty down to earth guy but I've never met him so either he's cool or he has a really good publicist.
I wish Will Smith would take more daring roles. Though his role in I Am Legend was pretty different than every other summer blockbuster he's been in. |

Smith claimed that his continuing success on the big screen is the result of a strong work ethic, rather than his acting abilities." That pretty much sums up my opinion of him as an actor - early in his film career he seemed to give up on being an actor, and decided to become a movie star. I find him extremely likeable, but I won't jump to see everything he's in (The Legend of Bagger Vance, anyone? - Mantan Moreland thinks it was a demeaning role). Considering his considerable box office clout, you'd have to excuse a little ego, right? It would probably turn me into a huge asshole. |
The early episodes of Fresh Prince are fun to watch due to Smith noticeably mouthing all of the other actor's lines.

I can take Smith in small doses. But did anyone see him on "Ellen" a few weeks ago? It was borderline Tom Cruise-like. No, not jumping on the couch. But that fake and scary laughing out loud the whole interview.
|
I have no beef with the guy. Having said that, I think most of his movies are either mediocre (I Am Legend) or unwatchable (I, Robot).
|
Nope. I love Will Smith.

I missed the Ellen episode, but he does seem like a phony. Becoming a scientologist is a logical move, since he's supposedly deeply closeted like Tommy boy. The scientologists can make teh gay go away. |

Well played sir. Well played... (As a brief aside, the "rolls eyes" smiley is a particularly emphatic expression of your distaste. It is a fantastic conveyance of intellectual acumen; one skillfully allowed to rise above the common pandering and drudgery typically reserved for trolling. I tip my hat to you.) |
