Traitor - Cheadle and Pearce

Just got back from this movie and was terribly disappointed. To call this movie a Bourne counterpart is just so wrong. For one thing it's very difficult to sit through 2 hours of Islamic terrorists trying to blow up Americans. Being an Islamist makes it very difficult to sympathise with the main character the way you could Bourne. There was a nice twist at the end but the second act dragged so badly I was waiting for it to end. I doubt I'll pick this up on DVD.

This New York Times review probably is the most accurate in terms of what the movie succeeds at and fails at.
I just got back and I really liked it, but I thought it had its problems.
While the trailers compared it to Bourne, I didn't have my hopes that it would... and I was glad that I didn't have that high of expectations.
Both twists were surprises to me an I thought that they fit within the framework of the story and were necessary...
Spoiler:
I will give it another viewing when it hits DVD/Blu-ray.
4 out of 5 for me... because for me it never got boring (but at times it wasn't that exciting either).

I thought this was good and it's sort of a thinking man's Shooter. I mention the Wahlberg movie specifically because, like that action-thriller, this movie is serviceable and, say, "worth watching" which is about the highest recommendation I can give it. I doubt it will set the DVD/BD world on fire but once it hits cable, it's the type of movie you'll start watching and won't be able to turn off (if you happen to just be seeing TV).
I didn't find Cheadle's performance stunning. It certainly helps the film but this is not to say that you would see it for Cheadle's performance.
It fails to hit the action highs of movies like the Bourne series or The Kingdom and it doesn't do a good job of intertwining all the geopolitics the way Syriana does, but that doesn't mean it's dull or stupid. It's just a good, entertaining flick. Nothing more, nothing less.

It had a few really great, sharp scenes that I thought really worked...but they were too few and far between. It was entertaining enough, but never rose higher than that...and I think it could have. The pace was alright and the finale is decent but certainly nothing you need to run out and see right away...but like the bus says, it is a movie that if it's on TV, it's certainly worth your time...

I thought the script was mediocre at best. The character development aspect just never grabbed my attention and squandered a decent performance by Cheadle (but it's nowhere near his performance in Hotel Rwanda).

alright...so I've had this film for like a year now. Thought I'd say something. Deep down I want to like it more but I don't. It gets the job done. Interesting premise but the script never pushes the boundaries. It's got a respectable cast. It never pushes them though. Nice to see Guy Pearce (why the hell isn't he in more US films?).

Re: Traitor - Cheadle and Pearce
it is a shame that Guy Pearce isn't in more US films...he should have been a big "A-List" star after 1997. Alas, that isn't anybody's fault but the fault of Guy Pearce himself, who didn't want it.
