Re: Smurfs - Live action

Or how about not make a Smurfs movie?

I never liked the smurfs as a kid. It was boring. I still don't get why people like them.

While folks in their 30's are going to remember the Smurfs from their childhood, this movie is for kids I am sure and it looks fun for THEM. Not sure why a bunch of grown men are nit-picking and upset over this ...

are you saying kid films shouldn't be good? Granted....we've yet to see the film. But still...just cuz it's for a kid doesn't mean it has to suck, which it kind of does.

Re: Smurfs - Live action

As bad as it looks I bet it still grosses 100M at the box office. Example: Alvin and the Chipmunks.

Edit: So just looked up the #'s for Alvin and Chipmunks and saw that both films passed the 200M mark domestically....wow had no idea. Knew they were box office successes but 200M?!?

Re: Smurfs - Live action

This crap eats away at my smurf. Until one day, I buy a smurf and go from cubicle to cubicle, smurfing smurf by smurf. Upon inspection of my pockets, I find that there is one smurf left. I load the smurf into my smurf and smurf my brains out all over the lucky smurf where I stopped smurfing.

This is so stupid. Why the hell isn't Gargamel cgi, too ? At least they look the way Smurfs are supposed to. Look how they failed miserably with the chipmunks movie.

You haven't seen it ... oh wait, you have ... wait, ...

What I am saying is all I see is a bunch of ranting for a movie nobody has yet to see and is primarily for kids.
Have any kids gone a msgboard to rant over Scooby-Doo or Alvin and the Chipmunks ?

I'm all for wanting Hollywood to do good on my childhood past wit TV and movies, but were the Smurfs ever really THAT favorable ?

I was talking about the trailer. Not the film. Just...using the trailer.

Looking at the posts after us...I actually didn't know it was set in a medieval setting. I just remember Smurfs and their...smurf town? Never thought there was much of a villain...guess so.

Re: Smurfs - Live action

Quality of the trailer/film aside... I hate to be "that" guy, but I can't resist. I know the temptation to go with celeb voices is off the chart, but the Smurfs were on for a decade. It's going to be hard to let go of the original voices of Smurfette, Papa Smurf, Brainy & Gargamel.

Re: Smurfs - Live action

wow...didn't know about Smurfette...lol...

via wikipedia:
She is the love interest of almost every Smurf
for some reason...that sounds creepy. Is it in anyway creepy today when you guys see an episode. Cuz that sounds kind of weird.

also...this is from the comics...
Frustrated, the Smurfs got back at her by making her think that she had put on weight and was becoming fat, thus causing her to fall into a state of depression. Papa Smurf took pity on her and took her to his laboratory, where they locked themselves in for several days before emerging. Smurfette now had long, flowing blonde hair and an appealing character. This caused every Smurf of the village to fall in love with her.
....I'm assuming the show didn't get this dark?

Re: Smurfs - Live action

It didn't come off as dark on the show to a little kid.

And yeah dunno how you missed the Smurfette thing -- this was posted on the first page of this thread but now seems like a good time for a recapper

I felt the only positive I saw in that trailer was Hank Azaria's part. Why do they need to be in NYC? Makes no sense and doesn't feel smurfy at all.

Re: Smurfs - Live action

I always enjoyed the Smurfs as a kid, maybe its because for a time I thought they were real creatures. Once we were driving in an interstate road and I asked my mom what were those little houses with flowers and a cross on top and she told me it was the Smurfs house so I was like sweet they do exist.

Unfortunately, what you saw was a memorial for a smurf that died. Smurfing smurf rage and teenage smurf driving.

Re: Smurfs - Live action

So Russell Brand is a CG Easter Bunny and Katy Perry is a CG Smurfette? Interesting combo.

No sound at work, but that animation looks terrible. I'd almost have rather seen them do it Roger Rabbit style if they have to bring them into modern times.

That was her? If she's transitioning into acting, I hope she takes tons of acting lessons cos her few lines in the trailer were dreadfully delivered (even for the shit lines that they were). But perhaps I shouldn't be too hard on her because everyone in that trailer sounded like they were choking back vomit as they were delivering their lines.

Or turn them into gold. The show never really made up its mind as to what exactly was his intended endgame with the Smurfs.

Just watched it with sound, words can't describe how horrible that was.
