As I always say when this title comes up in conversation, I'd LOVE to see this finally get the SE treatment and in BD.

What can I say? The pace of the film was perfect. Fincher and Roth dig deep in the study of death, love, and loneliness, and it's hard to imagine it being done any better. Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett were simply brilliant, and should earn many awards. Visually, it's gorgeous. From the snow in Russia, to Cate Blanchett's silhouette floating in the dark. Be ready to shed some man tears. I sure did, but I am a depressed emotional little bloke.

Article here about the similarity to a 2004 book called The Confessions Of Max Tivoli more than the F. Scott Fitzgerald book. Wonder if this is going to cause some problems.

Ebert gave it a 2.5 out of 4, calling it splendidly made but ultimately pointless.

Seeing this Boxing Day, can't wait.

I don't get where he's coming from on this. The film told a wonderful, engaging story and had a visceral reaction with the audience like any good piece of cinema should. People in my screening were crying as they walked out. I don't know how anyone could call it pointless.

Having seen pretty much all the awardbait films, I still hold that best picture will be between Button and Slumdog, and I think Button will take it.

F. Scott Fitzgerald is looking down, smiling and proud, at this. This film surely could not have been made any earlier, due to how much CGI would be required to make this realistic.

I can't wait to see it.

I think it's gonna be great, but you're saying that Fitzgerald would be proud of this and you haven't even seen it. I just have one question: how much is Cormac McCarthy going to love The Road?

Great movie. Warm, comical, passionate. I love how it focuses on the inevibilty of life which is death. It also shows how we must accept this fact. It also brilliantly shows how the perfect storm which creates events in our life can be intricate and simple. for Fincher, Zemeckis, Pitt, Blanchett et al.

I don't get Ebert's review either. I skim his reviews mainly for the criticisms as to not be spoiled, but I don't get how he can say it's a pointless movie. It deals a pretty universal subject that anyone can relate to.

I didn't get quite as emotional from this one as I did for Seven Pounds or Slumdog Millionaire, but I still think it's a great movie.

I need to see it again, the sound was a bit off in my theater, and I missed a lot of what old Daisy was saying.

This was fantastic: beautiful, heartbreaking. Blanchett was solid as always, nothing flashy, but Pitt here is terrific. Just excellent storytelling all round by Fincher.

I thought it was good but not great... Overall the movie felt sugar coated, there was nothing cynical about it... as if the writer was afraid to veer off the simple message about nothing lasting. The movie is simple but stretched grandly by Fincher vision, but I agree with Ebert that there wasn't much in content... this sort of thing should have strong characters, IMO the supporting characters came off as fake, the coda describing all these characters based on one word, is doing huge disservice to our multi-faceted reality.. highlighting the movies own shortcomings that these characters are very thin

Still would rate it *** .5 / *****, because there are lots of great moments and ideas
