Now I wish Favreau had directed Daredevil.

Saw the movie last night and, while I enjoyed it, it seemed a pretty paint-by-numbers affair. It seemed fairly obvious what was going to happen at all times (and I'm no Iron Man fanboy, so I didn't know the origin story going in).
I think the casting of Robert Downey Jr. was the best production move made as his presence made the movie more than the sum of its parts. Try to imagine the exact same movie made 4 years ago, only with Ben Affleck as the star, and it has disaster written all over it.
Also, I noticed that Gwyneth cannot act with a green screen. Every time it was just her and the SFX, she was so wooden and terrible. It was especially noticable since I thought she had terrific chemistry with RD, Jr., Bridges. and heck, even Clark Gregg.
Anyway, if I were to grade the film I would give it a B/B+. It was quite enjoyable for what it was, but I think I got my hopes up hearing all the effusive praise heaped upon the movie before seeing it. It certainly wasn't the greatest comic book movie of all time.

RDJ is one of the few actors out there that is, simply put, fun to watch. He was one of the highlights of A Scanner Darkly, Zodiac, and (no shock since he was the lead) made Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

Feige, speaking to online journalists at Universal Studios on May 21, added that Captain America would help set up the eventual Avengers movie, which follows six weeks later. (Feige also confirmed what many fans have speculated: That the star-shaped object in Tony Stark's workshop in Iron Man is indeed part of Cap's famous shield.)

Wow. Again, I'll give credit to Marvel for not pussyfootin' around with this whole Avengers movie thing.

Seriously! That is cool. It's about time Marvel got its act together and started producing its own movies. By having characters share the same universe, it makes these movies more comic book-like.
Being all under WB, it's a wonder why no DC crossover movies have come to fruition by now. (The long-talked about Batman/Superman movie would be a force to be reckoned with.)

Looks like Paramount is distributing, I can't remember are they usually good about getting a nice 2-discer right off the bat or is it the wait forever for a 2-disc double dip like Fox? I think I always get them confused with Universal for some reason.

I'm just hoping to get the Blu Ray the same day that the DVD is available. This is a definite "Must have" Blu Ray title!

Terrence Howard revealed to Military.com that Iron Man 2 is scheduled to begin filming in March 2009. Howard is signed on to reprise his role as Col. James ‘Rhodey’ Rhodes, who will likely become War Machine. In the comic book series, Rhodes takes over the armor when Stark relapses into alcoholism after Obadiah Stane takes control of Stark Industries. Jon Favreau, who isn’t yet signed on for the sequel (but is expected to return), has recently said that the release of Hancock might eliminate the possibility of doing the Stark Demon in a Bottle storyline. Marvel has already announced a April 30th 2010 release.

Anyone saw the TV spot for the Incredible Hulk on last night's NBA Finals?
Tony Stark's role and scene was shown. Universal sure knows how to add spice with their Incredibl Hulk trailer.

Might as well post my own review here, which is mostly positive. There's also, believe it or not, an interesting discussion of Iron Man in relation to Sex and the City, in the course of which I somewhat revise and expand upon my initial review, which probably went lighter than it should have on some of Iron Man's problems, in favor of focusing on its fun aspects. Hopefully this back and forth will continue to spark some discussion.

Looks like negotiations between Marvel and Favreau for Iron Man 2 aren't going well. Here's hoping Ratner is available

Just got back from this for the first time. A few caveats: I knew nothing of the Iron Man character, the Avengers, or anything related to them. All I could say about Iron Man was that he was a Marvel property. I knew so little about it that I thought War Machine was a nemesis of Iron Man.
All of that said, I thought it was really good. It's certainly on par (IMO) with X Men and and Spider-Man, but I'm not ready to say it was as good as Batman Begins. It was good in the sense that X-Men was good in that it gave some good backstory, some good sequences, and a decent final battle. My only gripe with the battle was Jeff Bridges's voiceover the whole time. That was just annoying.
From what I've read since getting home it seems like they nailed the origin pretty well. I'm excited to see where this franchise goes, and I hope they don't really shoot for a 2010 release for a follow-up.
Finally, I didn't get a trailer for the Dark Knight in front of mine. We had "Zohan", "Incredible Hulk", and something else relatively forgettable evidently.

Finally caught this one. Put me in the group that had little to no Iron Man background.
I found this enjoyable from the start until the end. I probably could have sat there and watched another 2 hours in fact. Ever since Alias, and probably before, I felt that the flashback technique was used much too often. However, in this I found that it was welcome. I didn't add too much time, it didn't drag, and they showed enough to give you what you needed without repeating themselves.
Looking forward to the video release and any sequel!

I'm probably the last person to see this on the forum, but I caught it this weekend and really enjoyed it (save for the person clipping their fingernails behind me in the theater
)
It was probably my favorite film of the Summer so far (probably not a better film than TDK, but I enjoyed it more).

TDK got a bit wobbly for me at the end (most of my minor quibbles with it surface at the end, including run time), where I can't say the same thing for Iron Man - very solid, start to finish.
