I was saddened and shocked at how much he'd changed. I had no idea he'd progressed like that. I'm amazed at how much of a trooper he is. I really got choked up when asked what were the last words he spoke.
Siskel and Ebert are the reason I started loving movies beyond the standard fare.

Roger Ebert is one of the reasons to have a Twitter account, if you don't mind left-wing politics mingled in with the movie stuff. He missed two Oscar predictions last night, and made me feel better about missing seven because of the two, he and I had the same pick for one and I got the other one right. This means absolutely jack to him, I'm sure, but it made me feel better about my otherwise mediocre record.

Sad to hear that his cancer is back
Sun-Times film critic Roger Ebert cuts workload after cancer recurrence
Roger Ebert announced late Tuesday night that he is stepping back from some duties as the Chicago Sun-Times' film critic after a recurrence of cancer.
Calling the move a leave of presence, Ebert wrote on his online journal: The painful fracture that made it difficult for me to walk has recently been revealed to be a cancer. It is being treated with radiation, which has made it impossible for me to attend as many movies as I used to.
The 70-year-old critic, one of Chicago's most widely embraced figures, wrote that he is "not going away" but will be relying more on others to review films, such as his Sun-Times colleague Richard Roeper.

Very sad to hear I hope he makes it thru, I have been watching a lot of Siskel and Ebert reviews lately on youtube. I liked the Nostalgia Critic Trbute show, and my favorite parody is the Slappy Squirrel short on Animaniacs.

Sad news but not unexpected.
I was very disappointed when he cancelled his book signing at TIFF last September due to health issues. The guy's really been through a lot these last years.
I did a little video awhile back highlighting Siskel and Ebert's talk show appearances:

Hard to believe he's been battling cancer for 11 years. I hope once again he beats it & am happy that he'll still be able to do selected reviews. I'm in just my 3rd year fighting it & can't imagine how hard his life has been. He'll sure be in my prayers.

I don't always agree with Ebert (Hell, I disagree with him about a lot of different things), but the guy is certainly the face of film criticism in modern culture, and I think even when we don't see eye-to-eye, his points are always intelligent and well-made. And at his best, they can be pretty funny too. Hats off to the guy, and that's not even counting what he's done in showing his incredible will in his battle against cancer. His shadow hangs over everyone from professional film critics to some guy writing on the Internet, his influence is huge.

Same here. It is shame that we do not have anything even remotely close to that dynamic on TV anymore.

RIP
Even though I disagreed with his reviews more and more in recent years he was always the critic who came the closest to my own tastes.
I am truly going to miss reading his reviews. No body in the business even comes close to his expertise in film.

Wow, R.I.P. Quite possibly the best film critic ever. Loved his audio commentary on the Citizen Kane DVD. A big treat to be able to watch a such a great movie with someone so knowledgeable!

I hadn't been reading his stuff as much in the last few years, but his Great Movies series was my gateway into the world of film.

I'll miss reading new material from him; but since I'll always be watching stuff from the past, I'll be able to enjoy his writing and TV shows until I
