I'll point out that Dead Man's Chest made a hell of a lot more money than its successor or its predecessor.

One of the rare cases where I think the market spoke correctly.
well, you have to consider that a lot of the gross for DMC had to do with the quality of TCofBP. The lower gross of AWE had to do with many people not that interested in the story of DMC.

I'm so glad I was born in the seventies, the birth of the summer blockbuster. Jaws in '75, and Star Wars in '77,Superman the movie '78, Raiders of the Lost Ark in '81,Back to the Future '85, Batman '89, Jurassic Park '93, Phantom Menace '99, Spiderman '02, all had the buzz and great crowds to watch a movie with. Honorable mention: Back to the Future 2 '89, T2 '91, X2 X-men United '2003, SpderMan 2 '2004, Pirates 2 '2005, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade '89, And that's of the top of my head. Dishonorable mention: ID4, Stargate, Godzilla, Lost World: Jurassic Park, Mummy Returns, Robocop 2.

Jaws
The Bourne Identity
The Bourne Supremacy
The Bourne Ultimatum
Casino Royale

Do Pixar films count?

Finding Nemo
Ratatouille
The Incredibles

Eagerly awaiting The Dark Knight this year, and have a mild interest in Indiana Jones 4 although i haven't seen 2 & 3 as I thought Raiders was pretty unspectacular.

I think the answer to your problem is obvious: never read.

does it count if you didn't actually see the movie that summer it was in theaters? bc i loved also "Jaws" and "Batman Begins" but did not see it upon release.
