I think this is already under discussion in the Grindhouse thread, STARZ showed the individual movies and the whole thing as well as featured it on demand.

for the true grindhouse experience though, invite a homeless person and hooker into your home theatre, two horny gay men, and pour a gallon of coke and piss on the floor.

RE: Planet Terror on Starz HD

I assume that Planet Terror is not the 2.35 theatrical presentation aspect ratio, but the recomposed video release aspect ratio version.

It may be that way on its own, but in the movie proper it's probably 2.35:1 for consistency.

Somehow, I don't feel like this subject merited 31 exclamation points.

I agree. 18 or 19 would have been just fine.

I'm just ashamed of myself for counting them, really.

I was really surprised on great looking Death Proof (114 min. version) looked in HiDef - granted Tarantino filmed with 35mm film (an advantage), the saturated colours have such a tactile and smooth look, and the blacks a solid almost inky appearence. Given how the enhanced marred print look almost completely disappears for the second half of the film, nonetheless the image is exceedingly sharp and has a pop to it. Even though this film didn't really impress me the first time, the second time though I liked it more.

This is also airing on The Movie Network in Canada. It hasn't aired in HD yet (will premiere in HD this upcoming Saturday at 9pm), so I've been watching my DVR recording of the SD broadcast. The entire film was shown in 1.85:1 with only the trailers and the main titles from Planet Terror being in 2.35:1.

So far I've only been able to make it through up to maybe 15 minutes into Death Proof, but everything so far has been fan-fucking-tastic, right down to the great music for each of the two films.

I absolutely love the fake trailers that start the feature and that are sandwiched between the two films, especially the trailer for Don't and Thanksgiving. The part of the Thanksgiving trailer where the guy dips his finger in the blood from the decapitated body, tastes it, and then confirms, "It's blood", followed by Michael Biehn exclaiming, "Son of a bitch!", had me rolling.
