Isn't Episode 2 when the Clone Wars take place?
Forgive me if i'm off on my Star Wars history, I haven't watched any of the movies since Episode III came out.

The Clone Wars start at the end of Episode II and end in Episode III.

Yes, I think Anakin was a jedi knight in ROTS. I am not certain, but I think there was a scene in the cartoon series when the council or jedi circle gave him that rank, might have been a flashback.

I'm sure there were a bunch of EU books about Anakin having a padawan.

You guys are splitting hairs now, it was all there in 1983, and Lucas has continued to show that he will sacrifice any old narrative for that moment in the movie he is making at the time. Sure Padme's death was dramatic, but it was at the expense of what was established in the Luke/Leia scene in ROTJ. It is like C3PO living with Uncle Owen for 10 years during TPM/AOTC, and then Owen doesn't recognize a golden droid who talks like an English Butler when he sees him in ANH? It would be like one of us hearing Arnold Swarzenegger 10 years later, and not figuring out that was the guy who played The Terminator.

I didn't think it was very dramatic, because there was no explanation of why she was dying beyond the "broken heart" throw-away line.

Honestly I watched this trailer and didn't impress me at all.

We know how all the characters land up at this point.....and guys like General Grievous, Count Dooku were so minor in the general Star Wars universe that their stories just seem so inconsequential.

Plus the whole war with one side being robots, while great for keeping lots of violence relatively clean..is so damn boring at this point. If you have seen one droid being shot, you have seen it all.

Oh well.

I agree it wasn't dramatic as that scene was lame, but I think Lucas was going for the dramatics, and sacrificing any continuity with ROTJ.

It looks better than I initially was thinking....so I'm relatively excited. If they can keep the fun tone from the animated series I'll be happy. Still not sure I'll catch this in theaters though.

Yep, I think it was in vol. 2 of the animated series, and they made a big deal about "Well, we're just giving you this without the usual hoops because we need the headcount..."

Warner Brothers is NOT theatrically releasing it.

20th Century Fox and Lucas have a deal where they distribute any Star Wars "product" theatrically, on DVD, etc.

TNT and Cartoon Network are the channels showing the show on television, Fox will put out the eventual DVDs and Blu-rays.

I've said before that a lot of the people in the SW universe view droids as a commodity item. Do you remember the toaster you had 20 years ago?

Besides, once Luke starts asking about old Ben Kenobi, Owen tells him to take the droids to Anchorhead and get their memories erased. Just because he doesn't spell it all out in the movie doesn't mean that he didn't eventually realize exactly which droids they were.

And yes, I'm well aware that none of this was planned out in 1977, I just choose not to view all of this through the "Luca$ raped my childhood" goggles.

Are you sure about that? According to all the articles I read, Warner is releasing it in theaters and DVD.

Yeah, I'm not sure if it was a flashback. There may be problems if this series give Anakin a padawan before he's Jedi Knight.

I wonder if they'll recreate some of those scenes from the animated series? There was some awfully cool stuff in there, and some fairly pivotal plot points...

looks, uh, ok I guess... and even though I am a huge Star Wars (ep 4,5,6) fan, ... I can't say I'm that excited about any of this... who exactly is clamoring for all this lackluster prequel bullshit... George, take Obi Wan's advice.. "move along, move along". Give us ep 7, 8, and 9 or be done with us... you're like a fucking crack dealer, giving us little dribs and drabs of shit, keeping us on the hook, when we are all really hanging around for the big pay out, the SEQUELS to the original trilogy.

Wow.. it looks.. odd. I mean, if they were going to just make them look like that, they might as well stick to the Samurai Jack cartoons.

I'm in the same camp as you. Not really jumping for joy over this. Indy on the other hand...

It's not about Lucas raping our childhood, its about just connecting the dots in a narrative that doesn't make it obvious when something doesn't make sense.

If you choose to look the other way towards a plot hole, I thinks that great, but when you take liberties with an already existing storyline, and now say the story should be watched the other way around, then it will be the OT with the plot holes years from now, not the PT.

I always laugh when people defend Lucas's plotholes, why didn't Lucas just make Darth Vader yellow instead of Black when he was first built, as Lucas could say, they didn't have any black paint until years after the Empire took over the galaxy. ;)

the only "plothole" that really bothers me is the "Leia remembering her mom thing". And it bothers me because just a simple change in editing would have made things alllll right for me. Cut to the scene where Padme just gave birth, and looks at baby Leia. Just give a little bit longer of a lingering shot there, maybe cut to a closeup of Baby Leias's face, then cut to Padme's face, back to Baby Leia's... that's it! don't have the same lingering shot with baby Luke... simple little implication of some sort of memory imprint... and voila... I'm satisfied.

Im really looking forward to this. The Clone Wars cartoon was the best Star Wars we've seen since Return of the Jedi.
