"Come with me if you don't want to die."
"Dead or alive, we're leaving together."
"You know what ol' Jack Burton says at a time like this? Why not."
"No fucking shit, lady! Do I sound like I'm ordering Chinese?!?"
"A toast to my big brother George, the wealthiest man in town."
"I'm the king of the Earth!"
"Nobody puts Frances in a corner."

"Greed is good."

Since the real phrasing is "Greed, for lack of a better word, is good," which I think packs less of a punch.

What are you talking about....of course its Strother Martin's character that you think of with this line. You don't think of Paul Newman saying this line. Personally i think the line is a classic.

The line i HATE with a vengeance (and the movie altogether) is "LIfe is like a box of chocolates." AAARRRRGGGHHHHH!!!!!! What sentimental wishy washy bullshit. The single biggest error in Oscar history was giving this steaming pile of horseshit movie any awards. Just another reason to hate Hanks.

Anything that becomes an Internet meme. Examples include the whole "snakes on a plane" line, "This is SPARTA!", and most recently "I drink your milkshake."

Unless of course you look at the diagram on the inside of the lid, which tells you what's inside each piece of chocolate. I guess Forrest never thought to look under there.

I would nominate "SHOW ME THE MONEY!" How I dreaded the year that movie came out. You couldn't turn on your TV without hearing some moron spouting that insipid line. I don't know why that particular line enraged me so, but it did.

I've never seen Jerry Mauire and I never will, because of my loathing of that one line.

In context, "show me the money" is hilarious. Well, 10 years ago anyway.

"Play It Again, Sam."

Primarily because neither Ilsa or Rick ever phrased it like this in Casablanca.

I blame Woody Allen.

The ad naseum repetition of "I have a bad feeling about this" in Star Wars.

At least they had the forethought to switch from Bones saying, "He's dead Jim," to Scotty saying, "Sir, he's dead already" to Kirk about Spock to avoid a laughable moment in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.

The "prepare to die" line from Princess Bride.

I guess it's not a bad line of dialog, but I don't get what's so special about it that it's become so canonized.

I still can't figure out what's so special about that movie.

well, you are taking that line out of context. when you hear Mandy Patinkin say "Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father, prepare to die" then it adds the meaning and is a great line that i remember to this day. i've never heard it just "prepare to die".

From: 75 clicks above the Do Lung bridge...
well the whole 'out of context/never was said in the film' award HAS to go to...

"Play it again Sam" from 'Casablanca'...

everyone knows that line is never spoken... in fact the polar, diametrical opposite line... which is Bogey(Rick) telling Sam "Sam, I thought I told you never to play..."

now movie lines i think could never be overrated?... say... every single line of dialogue spoken by Marv in 'Sin city'...

"well i'm gonna find that son of a bitch that killed you, and i'm gonna give him the hard goodbye..."

"that there is one damn fine coat you're wearin'..."

Same here. I guess I just don't "get it". Could be because it didn't see if for the fist time until my late 20s...who knows.

It wouldn't quite feel like DVD Talk thread without the Forrest Gump/Tom Hanks hate post.

People always seem to get mixed up between what is a bad movie and what is a movie they dislike. Forrest Gump is not a bad movie (I love it); it's just that some people don't like it. Tom Hanks is a good actor; it just seems a lot of people don't like him here at DVD Talk.

Yeah, but Rick also says:

Rick: You know what I want to hear.
Sam: No, I don't.
Rick: You played it for her, you can play it for me!
Sam: Well, I don't think I can remember...
Rick: If she can stand it, I can! Play it!

Which is a lot closer to the misquote, and probably its source.
