Fight Club: The Musical

Exclusive FIGHT CLUB the Musical News
1/22/2008
Posted by Frosty

Earlier today, I spent almost 20 minutes interviewing writer Chuck Palahniuk about “Choke,” his other books, what he has coming up, his writing process, his thoughts on how “Choke” turned out and a lot more. The entire interview was done on camera, and I think it was one of the best interviews I’ve ever done for the site and something really special. I think it helped that I’m a huge fan of his work and I had a lot to ask. Since I have so many interviews to post, I’m not exactly sure when it’ll be up… but it’ll be very soon. Promise.

However, when the interview wrapped, Chuck and I talked about a number of other things. Unfortunately, by that point the camera was away and I didn’t think to record what he said. And it kills me. Because we ended up talking about “Fight Club” the musical and I forgot to ask about it on camera.

But here’s the highlight: He confirmed that Trent Reznor (of Nine Inch Nails) will definitely be doing the music for the show!

He went on to say that David Fincher has been working on making “Fight Club” into a musical for some time now, and it really looks like it’s actually coming together. I then asked him if this was going to be some off Broadway show or would it be a big production. He said that 20th Century Fox was a big part of making it all happen and he thinks it’s going to be a big Broadway show. I think he said that Fox was actually paying for the show to get made.

Personally, I think Trent Reznor is the perfect choice for doing the music as he has the dark, brooding sensibility that the material would need to translate to the stage. Also, he has so much experience putting on big shows with his own material, that I think he would know what would and wouldn’t work.

Since Chuck did many other interviews today, perhaps another journalist out there got this info as a quote. But if they didn’t… take my word for it. Chuck said these things and as a huge fan of “Fight Club,” this actually sounds like it could work.

Look for the full interview soon.

this HAS to be about 3 months too early.

If not, I'm dying a little inside.

Re: Fight Club: The Musical

It's a teaming of three greats that will have many freaking out - "Fight Club" author Chuck Palahniuk, acclaimed "The Lion King" stage director Julie Taymor, and acclaimed filmmaker David Fincher.

Fincher famously helmed the beloved 1999 film adaptation of Palahniuk's "Fight Club", and now a tweet from the author suggests that Taymor is "working with David Fincher on a 'Fight Club' rock opera."

It sounds like Taymor, who has helmed a few films herself including "The Tempest," "Titus," "Across the Universe" and "Frida," is spearheading whatever this "Fight Club: The Musical"-style project is. How much Fincher is involved, who knows at this point but expect more news about it soon.
