Explosions just plain look good on film. So do bikinis and car chases. That's why you'll see lots of stories about structure fires, sex scandals, and freeway chases on the 5 o'clock news, but not many about bribery and fraud. Crooked government officials may be more important, but they don't film well.

Besides, explosions are a visceral thrill like nothing else. This is the Pepcon explosion.
