I used to think Pacino till HEAT came out.
DeNiro gave the best performance of the two in that movie.
And both actors have played the Devil and DeNiro's is far more better.
Beginning in 1990 Pacnio's performances have been a lot of loud screaming.

DeNiro.
They were both pretty even in the 70s and 80s, but from the 90s on, DeNiro has stayed strong.
I'd say Pacino has done three great films where he isn't the loose cannon cliche: Donnie Brasco, Heat, and The Insider.
Those aside, I was entertained by Carlito's Way, Oceans 13, and the Devil's Advocate.
DeNiro on the other hand has done a lot more crap, but showed much more range in the 90s on:
Goodfellas, Awakenings, Heat, Meet the Parents, Stardust, Jackie Brown and Ronin.
DeNiro has also shown the ability to take a smaller part and let other people shine; most effectively in Stardust and Jackie Brown.

I love pacino in ANy Given Sunday. He plays a coach so of course when he is coaching I guess you could say he is a loose cannon. I think any actor plays a coach as a "loose cannon". However he does get some great quiet scenes in the film as well. (also some fantastic deleted scenes shoe stuff about the character's son i believe)
But yeah i think Pacino is my favorite "Sports movie coach" ever. (Also gets my vote for best Sports movie ever.)
