Has anyone heard anything about this?
My roommate stumbled upon this and I was pretty much paralyzed by the trailer.

Mondo Kane 12-23-07 02:04 PM

Hopefully it'll be better than Yo-Yo Girl.

Yeah, that looks pretty terrible.
I'm hoping "Machine Girl" might be enjoyable in a good/bad way. Or something. But I usually hate all of those films that kind of come off as live-action anime. The kind that love bullet time, bad special effects and overacting.

discostu1337 12-23-07 06:20 PM

best movie ever???

RichC2 12-23-07 07:26 PM

It'll need Fudoh-esque vaginal blowdarts to achieve that.

Trigger 02-21-08 12:49 AM

This needs to hurry up and come out.

so this comes out on dvd in 2 weeks and i was wondering if anyone had seen it yet? is it worthy of a blind buy or should i netflix it?

bwvanh114 05-25-08 11:39 PM

All it has to do is say, "directed by Quentin Tarantino" and people will say how brilliant this movie is.

Xploited seems to already have it. They've actually had it a couple times in the last week or so, but have sold out really quickly.

http://xploitedcinema.com/catalog/ma...l-p-13948.html

I'm interested in how good it is too. Then again the trailer was pretty rad and I was completely sold on buying this movie soon.

DeputyDave 05-26-08 04:36 AM

It looks like a psychotic mix between Planet Terror, Kill Bill, and The Power Rangers...

I'll be buying it.

TomOpus 05-26-08 09:30 AM

I ordered mine, along with "Inside", on Friday and got my shipping notice yesterday.

asianxcore 05-27-08 11:10 PM

Just finished watching the movie.

Fun. Cheesy. Bloody. Gory. The trailer was spot on, this movie was a blast to watch. I actually enjoyed the extremely cartoon-like nature of some of the death scenes and the entire feel of the movie. A movie like this definitely benefited from this, as opposed to being a completely seriously toned "revenge" flick.

My only complaint was that the movie did drag a bit. That might have been due to the fact that I was waiting all the "infamous" death scenes throughout the movie :)

The FX are fun. They are sort of all over the place but get the job done. It's a mix of make-up FX, prosthetics and random CGI. Lots of spraying geysers of blood throughout the movie.

Definitely worth the $15 I paid for it. I hope everyone enjoys it!

Interesting since the listed ship date everywhere else is next Tuesday. I've been looking forward to it since Twitch started pimping it last year - and I'd love to get a full poster. I've had the AFM poster up as my desktop for months now.

Yo-Yo Girl sucked ass.
Machine Girl was awesome!

It shall be mine during the DD sale. Thanks for your thoughts, asianxcore.

You might as well go ahead and pick up Meatball Machine as well though since that one's already out - same creative team.

asianxcore 05-30-08 01:46 PM

Tokyo Gore Police looks really fun. Might have to pick that one up if it hits DVD soon. Looks even more odd/weird and bloody than Machine Girl was :)

Probably going to order Meatball Machine at work in the next couple weeks.

OldBoy 05-30-08 06:51 PM

i actually saw the DVD at Walmart today. i thought it was weird bc i could have sworn i remember the thread here and it being a new release theatrical, but sure enough an UR at Walmart. is that bizarre?

Matthew Chmiel 05-30-08 06:53 PM

Wal-Mart put it out early?!?!

Fuck, I'm going to Wal-Mart when I feel like I can put some pants on.

I have a feeling Meatball Machine won't even be invited to hold Tokyo Gore Police's candle! Love the homage paid out to the "Reject or Death" short already!!

Here's a second and longer clip of TGP ...

http://link.brightcove.com/services/...ctid1485881525 (any help on embedding this clip appreciated :) )

TGP looks beyond insane - taking the best elements from Meatball Machine, Reject or Death and a better looking Sexual Parasite!! Crazy stuff. The quad-katana limbed beast - phenomenal possibilities!! I may have to take a ride to NYAFF just to see this ..

Peep 05-30-08 07:43 PM

Just ordered it myself. Sounded to good to pass up. Have "Meatball Machine", but haven't watched it yet. Maybe I'll make it a double feature.

Tuan Jim 05-30-08 08:09 PM

Well Meatball Machine did come out a few years ago now so Machine Girl is the next step with the same team, followed by TGP...it's a progression of splatter.

Presumably this is the clip Visitor Q posted:

Now I don't know if it's higher production values or maybe it's harder for me to recognize bad acting in Japanese, but I can really get into these sorts of films where Troma productions really turn me off.

Matthew Chmiel 05-30-08 08:30 PM

Wal-Mart did have it in their new releases aisle.

$11.97!

Once I clean up my house, this is going right in!

can anyone else confirm this along with the price?

RichC2 05-30-08 09:01 PM

Call and ask, it isn't surprising really, my Walmart had a dozen copies of Casshern when it came out, for the lowest price around.

Edit: I can confirm, it was 11.96 here as well, big sticker covering most of the title though, so be on the lookout.

Edit: This movie is fucking retarded. And I mean that in the best possible way. TEMPURA ARM!

TomOpus 05-31-08 09:54 AM

Saw it at a Wal*Mart here too. They have a nice little Asian Cinema section but I didn't think they would carry this... and at a Wal*Mart price!

Matthew Chmiel 05-31-08 12:15 PM

The flick is pure B-movie, Grindhouse experience fun.

Fucking retarded? Yes. Fucking entertaining? Hell yes.

This is the kind of movie you would show to a group of friends cause everyone would eat it up.

I work in Electronics overnight, and yes I can confirm the availability and the price (it's actually been there for about 2 weeks). We just had a reset of the DVD section and alot of catalog (Dirty Harry)/obscure (Machine Girl) new releases tend to get put out early in the process. I remember the last reset one of the Voltron sets ended up coming out a few weeks early.

It's good to find out when your local Wal-Mart does the new set (usually every 4-6 months) so you can check to see if any future releases get put out early. I've noticed that roughly 2-4 end up on the shelves early.

I don't know if any of the other stores do it our way, but usually you'll see letters (D,EC,DC,IL) handwritten next to the tag in black marker denoting where the new location of that DVD will be. When that writing pops up, the reset usually comes within the next few weeks (roughly 3-4). Keep in mind that when a DVD has a "D" written next to it, that means we'll no longer be carrying it. So if you want it, pick it up when you see it.

I'm with RichC2 on this one. Let me preface this by saying that I loved Versus and Meatball Machine (probably the two closest low budget films that I've seen that I could compare with). But I hated Machine Girl.

Yes it is ridiculous, over the top, full of bad acting, filled with enough blood loss to put Mass General out of business - everything one could expect from a bad B-movie. But it's just so stupid.

Versus at least has characters (not development - not necessary) and great camerawork that aid along the film. Meatball Machine has a unique concept (alien "chess" match) and a really twisted love story. Even films like Evil Dead and Dead Alive have something to fall back on, whether it be creepiness, characters (again), well thought out effects .... Machine Girl had none of this. It ends up being a straight forward mass blood bath with questionable effects no better than the Sci-Fi channel's movie of the week. Realistically, if you took out some of the dramatic scenes it probably would have been better.

There was nothing presented to hold me to the screen and I was disappointed by this more than anything else. I would highly suggest a rental before buy on this one.

RichC2 06-02-08 09:59 PM

Oh, I said it was fucking retarded, but I loved every second of it. I didn't like Meatball Machine.

Gunde 06-03-08 01:31 AM

I loved it - and absolutely hated Versus (now THAT was retarded)

What's wrong with Versus? :(

There's been very few cult Japanese films that I have absolutely hated. Battle Royale 2 (ugh - one of the biggest cinematic disappointments in my entire life). Junk. Moon Child. A handful of Miike titles (Visitor Q being one of the big ones).

Tuan Jim 06-05-08 09:39 PM

Just got my MG copy in the mail today so no time to watch it yet -- but Versus -- that one ended up being kind of interesting. On the one hand it really drags out in some places - even longer in the new directors cut (with new scenes, etc), but there is some decent exposition in between. Some of the gunfight scenes just go on waaaay too long though (and end up being pretty repetitive with the same sorts of scenes happening more than once). Still, one of the better ones I've seen.

Dunno if someone wants to make a new thread to discuss some of these new B movie splatterfests.

Aside from the Japanese ones we've talked about, we could go into French - "Atomik Circus", Australian - "Undead", UK - "Evil Aliens" -- totally wild. Low budget - ie. not Planet Terror - but better (or seemingly so) production values than something like Troma.

Zodiac_Speaking 06-05-08 10:48 PM

I just picked it up at BB today. Can't wait to see it tomorrow.
