Jason Momoa may be playing Duncan Idaho: https://www.thewrap.com/jason-momoa-...leneuves-dune/

Paul will look tiny compared to Gurney and Duncan.

Momoa as Duncan Idaho?
No fncking way.
He is not Idaho material, but I have a cure...
Oscar Isaac has been pegged to be Duke Leto.
He should switch parts with Momoa...then the Universe will be right again.

They better have a sweet ending credit roll like the original movie, this is an epic cast as well!

re: Dune (2021, D: Villeneuve) - News, Rumors, Etc

Filming has begun on Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Entertainment’s epic “Dune,” being directed by Oscar nominee Denis Villeneuve (“Arrival,” “Blade Runner 2049”).

The big-screen adaptation of Frank Herbert’s seminal bestseller Dune stars Oscar nominee Timothée Chalamet (“Call Me by Your Name”), Rebecca Ferguson (“Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation”), Oscar Isaac (“Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi”), Oscar nominee Josh Brolin (“Milk,” “Deadpool 2,” “Avengers: Infinity War”), Stellan Skarsgård (the “Mamma Mia!” films, “Avengers: Age of Ultron”), Dave Bautista (the “Guardians of the Galaxy” films, upcoming “Avengers: Endgame”), Zendaya (“Spider-Man: Homecoming”), David Dastmalchian (the “Ant-Man” movies), Stephen Henderson (“Fences,” “Lady Bird”), with Oscar nominee Charlotte Rampling (“45 Years,” “Assassin’s Creed”), with Jason Momoa (“Aquaman”), and Oscar winner Javier Bardem (“No Country for Old Men,” “Skyfall”). Chang Chen (“Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,” “The Grandmaster”) is in discussions to join the cast.

A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, “Dune” tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.

Villeneuve is directing “Dune” from a screenplay he co-wrote with Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts based on Herbert’s novel. The film is being produced by Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Joe Caracciolo and Villeneuve. The executive producers are Tanya Lapointe, Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt, Kim Herbert, Thomas Tull, Jon Spaihts, Richard P. Rubinstein, John Harrison and Herbert W. Gains, with Kevin J. Anderson serving as creative consultant.

Behind the scenes, Villeneuve is collaborating for the first time with Oscar-nominated director of photography Greig Fraser (“Lion,” “Zero Dark Thirty,” “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”); three-time Oscar-nominated costume designer Jacqueline West (“The Revenant,” “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” “Quills”) and co-costume designer Bob Morgan; and stunt coordinator Tom Struthers (“The Dark Knight” trilogy, “Inception”). Oscar-winning and multiple Oscar-nominated composer Hans Zimmer (“Blade Runner 2049,” “Inception,” “Gladiator,” “The Lion King”) is creating the score. Villeneuve is also reteaming with two-time Oscar-nominated production designer Patrice Vermette (“Arrival,” “Sicario,” “The Young Victoria”), two-time Oscar-nominated editor Joe Walker (“Blade Runner 2049,” “Arrival,” “12 Years a Slave”), two-time Oscar-winning visual effects supervisor Paul Lambert (“First Man,” “Blade Runner 2049”), and Oscar-winning special effects supervisor Gerd Nefzer (“Blade Runner 2049”).

“Dune” is being filmed on location in Budapest, Hungary, and in Jordan.

The film is slated for a November 20, 2020 worldwide release from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Entertainment.

First misstep: Hanz Zimmer is applying his "music" to the film. Ugh.

Chang Chen is playing Dr. Yueh and I assume Stephen Henderson is Thufir Hawat. That leaves the actors for Feyd, Dr. Kynes, Alia, Shaddam IV and Princess Irulan still unannounced. I guess those last three aren't necessary if they're only filming the first half of the book.

I vote for Florence Pugh.

Legendary CEO Joshua Grode:
What kinds of movies is Legendary hoping to make moving forward?

We're making a diversified slate financially. We have some that are huge like Dune.

Will Dune be two movies?

That's the plan. There's a backstory that was hinted at in some of the books [that we expanded]. Also, when you read the book there's a logical place to stop the movie before the book is over.

Why Hans Zimmer choose Dune over Christopher Nolan's latest:

About 25% of the time Zimmer delivers something interesting. I’m not too worried.

But he’s no Toto.

I hope this movie surprises everyone next Christmas and does for sci-fi what Lord of the Rings did for fantasy. Did they shoot a story that covers the whole book and they're releasing it as two movies, or did they just shoot the first half the book and hope it proves popular enough to finish? If so, I am glad that's not the approach they took with LOTR. I think that if the movie gets fans they owe it to them to finish the story in the medium it was presented.

Only one movie was shot, half of the book.

Well that's a a bit of a let down. While I hated Battlefield:Earth that movie took the same approach thinking it would prove popular enough for a sequel. I am 100% sure Villeneuve will deliver something better than that(if not, then these stories just need to be labeled "not shootable" and every attempt to make a movie disavowed) , but it still may have difficulty connecting to the main stream audience. Still, here's hoping. The first book
Spoiler:
does have a bit of a time jump and covers several years, so it would make sense in a way. But a lot of the stuff that would be impressive visually is in the second half after Paul joins up with the Fremen (I presume this will be the stopping point with the Harkonnen raid being the climax).

I just don't wand this to wind up being a case where people who like it have to sit around wondering what might have been.

The weird thing is this image was used at convention, but it is a stock photo. Unless it’s entirely fake? WB is trying to get people to take it down.

For some reason I’m really looking forward to this. I’ve never read the book and I’ve tried three times to watch the Lynch film.

Done right, it could be spectacular.

The Lynch film is it's own thing, but has it's fans (me included). There's also the TV miniseries, that I've seen parts of, and also has it's own personality.

But the book is an absolute classic.

Me too. I’ve never read the book or been able to finish any of the films.

Of course Villeneuve, who’s batting 1.000 for directing feature films, is a big part of my excitement.
