Christmas seems like a very odd release date for this film.

Don't you know - Santa Claus and the SS go together like ... like ... peanut butter and jelly ... Abbott and Costello ... Rosie O'Donnell and the all-you-can-eat buffet ... ;)

Except musicals about wronged barbers killing clients. (Oh wait that was the 21st of December, my bad)... I dunno, Xmas day seems to be a popular day for historical pics, like Munich, Wolf Creek, and Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo. And to a lesser extent, some historical biopics like Dracula 2000, Invasion of the Body Snatchers ('78), and Cache.

I'm still upset that Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo continues to be left off the list of the AFI's Top 100 Films

Well, at least each and every unoriginal goober who has made a "(Insert movie title here) Part 2: Electric Boogaloo" joke has done his part to keep the film in our hearts and minds.

This is a great historical story. I remember the miniseries War & Remembrance's take on the assassination plot, and that was well done.

I'm really looking forward to a feature length film treatment of it. I rarely go to the movies anymore, but I'll certainly check this out sometime that week btwn X-mas and New years.

Does anyone remember The Plot to Kill Hitler TV movie from 1990?

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0100376/

I thought it was really good and actually owned it on VHS. I noticed they are releasing it on DVD in January.

NoirFan 11-25-08 10:30 PM

I remember They Saved Hitler's Brain, despite all efforts to the contrary.

This has to be the most ridiculous movie i've ever seen. well not seen, but still....Tom Cruise is a german officer in WWII? rotfl rotfl rotfl

the hubris it takes to make something like this is mind boggling...i just don't understand what would possess anyone to think this was a good idea. totally idiotic, and I hope it flops with ishtar like glory. It's so insulting there just aren't words for how bad an idea this is....what a disaster.

Nth Power 11-29-08 03:30 AM

I have no urge to see this movie. The trailer did nothing for me.

superdeluxe 11-29-08 10:40 AM

The trailer looks great, we will be seeing this opening weekend!

NoirFan 11-29-08 10:49 AM

If this starred anyone other than Tom Cruise, it might be decent entertainment. It's just impossible to take him seriously - he looks like a little boy playing dress up.

Artman 11-29-08 11:58 AM

I'm definitely looking forward to it but I think it'll tank pretty badly... like I said before they shouldn't be marketing this as a tom cruise vehicle...but rather highlight all the actors and market it more as a serious drama/award contending picture. Seems they went the popcorn, blockbuster route and that certainly isn't going to work imo.

this is a serious question as I can't for the life of me understand how someone would react to this with anything but laughter:

What exactly "looks great" about this silliness?
