Roger Bart

So this guy follows up

Spoiler:

getting his dick cut off and fed to a dog in "Hostel 2"

with

Spoiler:

showing up for two minutes in "American Gangster," unexplained and unannounced to drop a couple of racial epithets and then walk out of the film, never to be seen or mentioned again.

What the hell is up with that? Is he trying to corner the market on being the go-to asshole white guy?

Just to clarify the significance of this, and I don't really think this spoils anything, but I will spoilerize it anyway because "American Gangster" is a new movie,

Spoiler:

this guy shows up for the first time, two hours into a two and a half hour movie, having not previously appeared, shouts the word "Ni**er," calls Russell Crowe a "K*ke" and walks out of the movie.

It was weird. I am sure there is a four hour Ridley Scott cut that gave him a beefier role, and it was cut down to the one scene. But still, weird.

He's quite an actor, actually. For however long it lasts, he originated the role of Young Frankenstein in Seattle and on Broadway.

You mean this Roger Bart?:

When he showed up in American Gangster, I was waiting for him to break into song. And I might have been OK with that.

Roger Ebart may have his books but Gene Siskel was the true talent in the duo. I'll miss him.

Well, his scene was used both in the trailer and the tv commercials, so he kind of had to stay in the movie.

Yes. And they looped "black man" over "ni**er" for the commercials and the trailer.

To be fair, he was talking about a drug dealer.

That entire movie treated Frank Lucas with way too much respect. The one character in the film that doesn't is just treated as an asshole.

I thought the movie treated him fairly neutrally; compared to other gangster/drug dealer movies, it definitely didn't make him out to be some outrageous, witty pimp type.
