You what I'd love to see..Martin Campbell making a sequel to his own franchise film. Campbell is always the guy to start it up but never follows up. Goldeneye and Casino Royale are the prime examples of which he was on the fucking ball getting a lot shit done. I'm sure he'll do a great job on this...but I'd love to see him do a sequel.

^Well he did do that with Zorro and the 2nd Zorro film didnt turn out to anywhere near as good as the first Zorro movie. I still dont know why in the hell they made the 2nd one rated PG.

Re: Green Lantern - news, rumors, castings, etc.

The rating of the second Zorro film wasn't the problem. It was how it went from the first being an action/drama and the second being a family adventure/comedy. Although the best part of the second movie was surprisingly the little kid.

There were funny antics in the first, particularly with Alejandro and Tornado, but the gags were made excesively kiddie and silly in the sequel. And lets not forget the runaway train and the people too stupid to just walk to one side or the other of the tracks so the train could pass them by at the blinding speed of 30mph.

I also don't get the continuity of the sequel. At first I thought Alejandro went from using his real last name, Murieta, in favor of De La Vega so that no one would know of his criminal past and Elena would continue as the daughter of Don Rafael Montero. However, everyone in the sequel seems to know she's not really his daughter. Also there's perplexingly no mention of Alejandro's true identity.

Re: Green Lantern - news, rumors, castings, etc.

Oh ok...I thought the rating toned down the value of the film's quality but..seems like it just kinda sucked.

Anyway...that is good news. Ryan Reynolds is the perfect Deadpool, would be a great Flash, and as of the moment kind of a suprise casting for Hal/GL. Not saying he couldn't do it...it's just his humor tends to be more of a "I'm the smart ass of the team" rather than "I'm just cocky". I'd like to know story details for sure. Wonder how much of the GL corps we'll see. Cuz that would be the hurdle to pass. To bring to life all that intro to Hal and the audience and sell it right to bring the tone of the film where it needs to be.

Re: Green Lantern - news, rumors, castings, etc.

I hope they go for the approach the animated movie seems to be aiming for. Sinestro and the Corp. are there but Sinestro isn't the heavy just yet. The seeds for his evntual betrayal are planted but he's still basically a good guy.

That's the only way I can see that whole "Legion" guy (who the hell is that anyway?) that was mentioned a while back working as the villain of the first.

Re: Green Lantern - news, rumors, castings, etc.

I guess they are not going to fast track to December 2010, and i'm not sure they could.

Imdb now shows 17 June 2011

So, who should be Sinestro? Ive seen Hugo Weaving and Jude Law tossed around.

Well, since this is going to be a $150m+ budget movie, Warner wants to make this their major summer tent pole movie of 2011. Then 2012 could bring Batman and 2013 Superman or some other DC property (The Flash, Wonder Woman, etc).

Green Lantern is my absolute favorite DC character. So excited to finally get this movie, and so glad is doesn't star Jack Black as Hal.

Glad to hear about Reynolds , now lets just hope they don't screw it up. I don't think it will be too hard to make a Lantern movie, but if anybody can screw it up, Hollywood can!

Meh, I think Reynolds would make a better Flash. But at least he's not Timberlake. I think fanboys would have revolted if that tool had been cast.

How legit is the rumor that Timberlake was actually in the mix? I thought I read he really wasn't and it came down to Reynolds, Cooper and Jared Leto...

Green Lantern Cast Off

Carol Ferris - Maggie Siff: Say it with me now: “Mr. Jordan, you know I don’t date employees.” Balancing on the fine line between beautiful snob and struggling business owner, Maggie Siff has the class (Mad Men) and the conflict (Sons of Anarchy) to be the one true love of Hal Jordan. Don’t believe me? Check her out here and here.

Sinestro - Hugh Laurie: With his biting wit, his unmatched tactical prowess, and above all his unwavering sense of self-confidence, there are few that could make Sinestro a three-dimensional character better than Hugh Laurie. As the man portraying the titular character House would fully understand, it takes a special kind of man to see his ambitions to the end, regardless of the rules. If Hugh was picked for this role, expect a Heath Ledger-style of rock solid performance.

The Guardians - Anthony Hopkins and Judi Dench: When you condense all the wisdom in the known universe, you want some heavy hitters to assume the role. Some CGI could duplicate Anthony Hopkins and Judi Dench a hundredfold, as the enigmatic Guardians of Oa. Plus, Dench already has a working relationship with Campbell, having performed in Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace as M.

Tom Kalmaku - John Cho: Tom Kalmaku, known in less progressive times as “Pieface,” has been the Jimmy Olsen to Hal Jordan’s Clark Kent — a confidant, a friend, and someone who can pull Hal Jordan out of some of the problems of his own making when it comes to Carol Ferris. Yet in this case, you also need someone who can be funny, in order to keep Reynolds in line — with that bit of charisma and humor needed, John Cho of Harold and Kumar is perfect.

Arisia - Jewel Staite: She may only look sixteen, but in fact she comes from a world where one year is like 240 for us. But Arisia has always been known as the most innocent and charming of the Green Lantern Corps, and that’s why it’s no surprise that Jewel Staite — who captured our hearts as adorable characters in shows ranging from Firefly to Space Cases — should take to the skies with her very own power ring.

Abin Sur - Liam Neeson: The voice alone makes the pick — who else could sound so heroic and tragic at the same time? Forget that he was Ra’s Al Ghul in Batman Begins, and imagine him as completely bald with no beard, and you have youself Abin Sur, whose voice rang through Hal Jordan’s head: “You are a man that will overcome great fear. Hal Jordan of Earth. Do you accept this duty?”

Tomar Re - Peter Jacobson: Another pick based on voice, although Jacobson could actually play the role with prostheses. Peter Jacobson has an everyman quality as Dr. Chris Taub in House, one that is desperately needed for Tomar Re, Hal Jordan’s “neighbor” in nearby Sector 2813. This is a guy who is a welcome foil for Jordan, his Tom Kalamaku in Space, so to speak, so having this sort of warm voice that conveys emotion is perfect.

Salaak - Alan Rickman: Come on, have you ever thought of Salaak being played by anybody else? The sadonic tone to this multi-armed alien is palpable — he is the Green Lantern Corps’ version of Severus Snape. Need help to get your imagination in gear for this CGI voice pick? Click here, readers!

Kilowog - Vin Diesel: Kilowog is a tough guy with a sardonic sense of humor, as he trains his charges to fight in the frontlines of intergalactic crime. Imagine Vin Diesel yelling out “ya poozer!” for a CGI behemoth. Need help? Click here.

Hector Hammond - David Thewlis: The one-time Remus Lupis creeped us all out in the Island of Dr. Moreau. He would be perfect as Carol Ferris’ pathetic, ill-fated stalker, whose exposure to a meteorite gives him unbridled telepathic and telekinetic abilities, even as it makes his head too bloated and distended to carry on his own neck without some sort of assistance.

Black Hand - Wes Bentley: Let’s ignore Ghost Rider for a minute, and focus on the fact that Wes Bentley can pull a convincing creepshow with no problem. Look at American Beauty! It’s his pale, dead look — along with a school shooter sort of mentality set by the director — that would make Bentley a great pick for Black Hand, the one-time minor threat whose curiosity for death became a soul-twisting nightmare.

Atrocitus - Rodrigo Santoro: Whatever they did to make Santoro’s voice in Xerxes in 300, it needs to happen again for Atrocitus. This is a CGI style creature who sounds nothing like a normal human, whose fury will come to haunt the Green Lantern Corps in further adventures.

Re: Green Lantern - news, rumors, castings, etc.

Sinestro is significantly older/more disillusioned. He and Jordan have a Veteran/Rookie relationship. Cooper's too young for that, I see someone more along the lines of Liam Neeson as Sinestro.

EDIT: Scratch that, he did the mentor-turned-villain thing in BATMAN BEGINS. But honestly: tell me he wouldn't be an INCREDIBLE Sinestro...

Re: Green Lantern - news, rumors, castings, etc.

Australian website Inside Film (via Production Weekly's twitter feed) reports recent gains in the Australian dollar puts the production in jeopardy. "While most offshore productions lock in finance when a project is green-lit, it is understood that ongoing work on the Green Lantern script delayed that move. Pre-production on the film was originally scheduled for July and filming for November," states the article. This could mean the film will have to shift its release date if the production is forced to relocate and any number of crew changes.
Cooper Blames Botched Audition On Bale

Actor Bradley Cooper is blaming Batman star Christian Bale for costing him the lead role in forthcoming superhero film The Green Lantern.

Cooper auditioned to star in the upcoming comic book movie adaptation - but ruined his screen test by imitating Bale's husky-voiced portrayal of the caped crusader.

The Hangover star is sure the casting agents were laughing at his Batman impression and that convinced them to hand the role to Hollywood hunk Ryan Reynolds.

Cooper laughs, "I couldn't not do Christian Bale's Batman when I was doing the audition. I don't know what it was. You put a mask on, and I actually said, 'I'm Batman.' When I walked back and saw (the playback) I thought, 'Oh my God!' It looked like a Saturday Night Live sketch. I was like, 'Oh, I'm not getting this!'" »

Re: Green Lantern - news, rumors, castings, etc.

The Green Lantern movie appears to have gotten a green light and may begin filming in a couple months.

After months of little or no news about the Warner Bros. film, Superhero Hype spotted an item on visual effects supervisor Karen Goulekas' blog that said Green Lantern was greenlit and will start filming in March.

The news isn't official, and the original blog post has since been removed (the post was allegedly here). But if it turns out to be true, it would be the first solidly positive news fans have heard since Ryan Reynolds was announced in the lead role of Hal Jordan six months ago.

So a 2011 summer flick, I'd presume. Nice.
