I don't get the Hilary Swank inclusion. All she did was cut her hair short. She looks like man already. Why do people seem to think this woman is attractive? Just another overhyped actress that has never lived up to the hype for beauty or acting abilities..ala Julia Roberts.

Like a lot of you, Bale and DeNiro were the first I thought of as well. I remember reading/hearing an interview with Bale where he said he could barely do a pushup after he had dropped all the weight for The Machinist.

Even though it was a small part, a nod should be given to Donnie Wahlberg for The Sixth Sense.

What about Linda Hamilton for T2?

I thought of DeNiro immediately, but I was thinking for The Untouchables. He's done the body transformation thing a lot (look at Cape Fear!)

I like "chubby" Renee better, as well.

Scary thing about Bale is that he was pretty jacked in American Psycho.

So he went from buff to skinny to buff. That can't be healthy.

Bale's is the most amazing because of the time span involved and the fact that he went from seriously underweight to looking pretty bulked up, not just gaining fat. Thats tough work.

I'm surprised they didn't mention Ryan Reynolds 5-6 month training for Blade Trinity.

Linda Hamilton for T2 was amazing but I give top nods to Bale. Seriously I did that while sick and had to get my gallbladder removed from rapid weight loss that developed over 150 stones. Plus loose skin, marks and still feeling abit obtuse in thinking process. It cant believe he didnt mess himself up with that transformation but I guess Hollywood money really does open up magic doors.

Seriously, how did Bale put on 100 pounds of mostly muscle in 6 months? Is any info on his diet and routine available anywhere?

Before I even clicked on the link in the original post, I thought of Charlize Theron in Monster. I'm not sure if I would have known it was her if I hadn't already known she was playing the lead role.

Another vote for Bale, its amazing how dedicated he is to his movie roles. I wish more actors were as dedicated as him.

Bale had a transformation in Rescue Dawn this year as well. He plays a POW that goes from healthy looking to very thin slowly throughout the movie. Not sure how they did that - pretty impressive.

Also for that movie, Steve Zahn looked like he lost a ton of weight too.

First thing I thought of was Bale in Machinist. Amazing performance and transformation. And then to think he put on 100 lbs. and got too bulky for Batman.

Well, it's not as if most roles require that sort of physical change. For most films, the script demands a "white, good-looking" person for leads.

I remember reading that Norton said it took him 9 months to get that beefed up but 2 months to lose it.

I think Damon or Bale said, can't remember which, said that they only had a grapefruit for breakfast and lunch.

While the regular bulking-up process for a movie isn't that big a deal, seeing James Spader of all people with big muscles in Supernova was surprising.

I agree. When I first saw that I didn't even know it was him.

After clicking that link, I couldn't stop laughing at Damon's transformation for the role in Courage Under Fire. It just looks really odd.

I have read a few people remark that the constant weight changes are starting to show in Bale's face.
