Looks ok. I've heard that the Japanese original isn't exactly a classic anyway, so it wouldn't exactly be hard to top it or at least improve upon it.

I'm trying to remember the last J-horror re-make that was actually good.....hell, that wasn't abysmally bad.
Still, for whatever reason, the mere fact that Edward Burns is in it gives me an iota of hope that it could be above the mess.

One Missed Call was a terrible movie, hopefully they improve on it.

Wow, the movie actually did well on opening night.... an estimated $5.2 million on Friday night...
I'm actually very surprised by that. I really thought it would bomb big time.

Did anyone actually think this movie would be good?
I mean besides teeny-boppers. My 15-year-old brother has been begging me to take him to see this and I outright refuse. I pointed him to the Rotten Tomatoes site.

RT now has 29 reviews and still nary a positive ONE. Has a movie ever ended with a 0%?
I forgot about Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever 102 negative. Only 29 negative isn't even close (although the pct is the same).

People eat this shit up. My mom is a 3rd grade teacher and they were saying how they couldn't wait to see this movie. :/

Ha. Maybe it'll be this year's "When a Stranger Calls". I remember being dumbfounded when that movie was #1 the first weekend. During the trailer, I thought they were going to turn it around, and be like, "From the guys who brought you Scary Movie".
There was one last January that did the same thing.
I guess it's a given now. You can release a low-budget, petty, lazy, tennie-horror flick in January and make a few bucks ... regardless of our lousy it is.

I was going to ask if anything else ended with a 0% and there's my answer.

I still don't get the whole "remaking Japanese movies for America with American casts" thing. The Japanese don't remake OUR movies for exhibition in their own country, they just show 'em in their theatres and everything seems to turn out OK.
Is it because Japanese movies don't have big name stars that Americans have heard of? If that's the case, Hollywood needs to know that I have NEVER gone to see a movie just because a certain star is in it (I've AVOIDED movies because of who was in it, but that's a different story). Is it because they think the audience doesn't like reading subtitles? If so, they have this thing now called "dubbing."
Surely it would be cheaper for Hollywood to import rather than recreate.

I saw this.
I was in the mood to see a movie and my sister was begging for me to take her. Honestly? Not terrible. I'd put it somewhere along the lines of Cry_Wolf (boring story), The Ring Two (not as good as its best scenes) or The Grudge (plot-wise). There's not a single new thought in this movie but it was somewhat entertaining. No, I don't recommend it.
But it's still better than 1408.
