No.

It featured a recap at the beginning that did change some plot elements (mainly just having it be Ash and Linda at the cabin) in interest of time, and then it launched into sequel territory once Ash goes flying. The recap only lasts about 10 minutes and everything else is all new material

yeah, but i think it's been said that it is a total re-imagining of the first with bigger budget and thus remake of 1st.

I believe they quickly reshot a recap from part one because they couldn't get the rights to show scenes from Evil Dead. IMO, it could certainly be seen as either a sequel or remake.

Casino Royale (if you really want to consider it a remake)

I don't see how Evil Dead II could be considered a remake of Evil Dead. It clearly takes place the night after the events in the first film. It's like saying Halloween II is a remake of Halloween, or Hellraiser II is a remake of Hellraiser.

I for one don't mind a thread like this being brought up again and not just an old one resurrected. The previous thread was started in 2005. How many remakes have come out since then? How many new folks are a part of the DVD Talk community?

Reading this thread has caused me to add the newer Hills Have Eyes to my 'need to check out' list. I've seen the original and had neglected to take a look at the new one since remakes usually are a step down...

I liked the remake of Vanilla Sky better than the original but overall most re-makes are terrible.

i've always wanted to see "Abre Los Ojos". does it retain the same feel and perhaps it is a little less confusing than VS?
