Let's not forget Bronson's fun earlier work in the horror, sci-fi genre...House of Wax, Master of the World. He was a great and fun actor...doesn't matter if it's a bad movie, he made them watchable.
|
Coincidently, he was in the Have Gun Will Travel episode I watched last night. "The Outlaw" Season 1, episode 2.

I love Bronson he is my favorite actor and I probably seen every film and read everything that is available on the man. I was not Cannon Films that tarnished him, he just didn't realize that he should have moved on to different types of roles before it was too late. The Indian Runner, The Sea Wolf and Yes Virginia There is a Santa Clause just some of the roles that he eventually decided to take at the urging of those close to him. He could have been a great elder statesman in lots of different types of roles if he would have just taken them. |

Re: Charles Bronson appreciation thread
Here he is in CRIME WAVE (1954) playing exactly the kind of lowlife thug that the Bronson of DEATH WISH (1974) would have happily blown away:

definitely worthy of being anyone's all-time favorite actor. You can't get more bad-ass than bronson.
My favorite underrated bronson movie, that you are simply not a man without owning, is honor among thieves. Also starring the equally bad-ass alain delon. There are so many awesome bronson moments in this movie, with certain smirks & looks he gives delon's character that just make me grin every time i watch this movie. |
Re: Charles Bronson appreciation thread
Weird ass reason to bump.

Re: Charles Bronson appreciation thread
I re-watched Hard Times a few weeks ago. Great movie.

Re: Charles Bronson appreciation thread
Also liked his small role in The Indian Runner.

Re: Charles Bronson appreciation thread
Growing up in a Spanish speaking household it seemed like everyone knew who Charles Bronson was but me. I'd find out later on in middle school when the tv station would play 5-nights of Charles Brosnon films. Man, those were some good fucking times!

I'm being generous to the newbie, but maybe it was the recent death of Menahem Golan, producer of so many late Bronson films, that inspired the bump.

And the simple fact that the newbie used the search function.

Only $4.99 at Amazon. Sorry for the 5 year bump, but figured this was the best place to mention it without it getting lost. It's the lowest price this set has been. Also worth mentioning, one of Charlie's really underrated 80s movies "The Evil that Men Do" is available to watch on Amazon Prime. |
Re: Charles Bronson appreciation thread
Can anyone comment on the picture quality of that four pack? I only need The Valachi Papers. I have the other 3. Also Amazon says it is an add on items with a $25 purchase. I have never seen that before.

Re: Charles Bronson appreciation thread
This thread sucks. How can you have an "appreciation thread" with no sexy pics?

If you sign up to have a designated Amazon Delivery Day, you bypass the add-on minimum. |

Re: Charles Bronson appreciation thread
My new Kino Lorber blu rays of Death Wish 4 and 5 just arrived yesterday. I started watching 4 with the commentary by Paul Talbot, who wrote a few books about Bronson. It was really late so I only watched half. But he’s a really knowledgeable Bronson pundit.
He pointed out some interesting nuggets: Bronson got paid over $1M per movie He got to keep all his clothes from the movie. Kay Lenz, who played his GF in 4 was 34 years old, while he was 66 Cannon was in cost cutting mode at the time and used a lot of cheap props and sets including cheap used cars. 4 was the first DW movie written by a solo writer. Several actors in 4 were Cannon regulars like John P. Ryan, who played the bad guy here. 4 was the first DW movie at the time to not feature graphic nudity. Bronson was heavily against it. Also, there were two rejected scripts for this movie. One of them would have made Kersey some kind of international action hero. |
Re: Charles Bronson appreciation thread
Paul Talbot's commentaries are the absolute best. I will always upgrade when he does one.
